Just arrived at the market

One word today — fresh FIGS. The market is packed with everything from fresh meats to fruit to baked goods. Look for some awesome bulk deals (bushels, pecks) from our Amish vendor for canning or your favorite sauce. We will be here until 2 and every Saturday through October 28th. Don’t forget your bags!

Today’s market is full of the best produce grown in Jefferson and adjacent counties — plus local meats, baked goods, coffee, and more. Come take advantage of the season’s best deals. We will be here from nine in the morning until two in the afternoon. Don’t forget to bring your bags.

The market has all sorts of fruit today — from watermelons to peaches to pears. In addition, look for raspberries, leeks, gourmet cupcakes, king oyster mushrooms, heirloom tomatoes, head lettuce, grapes, honey, and more. Don’t forget that everything is truly local, from the four county area. We will be here until 2. Don’t forget your bags!

Some great points about buying local meat!

Know what you’re buying. This picture has store beef(left), and farm beef(right). There is an obvious visible difference between the two! But the differences don’t stop there!

1. You may notice in the picture the color difference. The store bought is pumped full of additives and water. There isn’t a guarantee of where that beef came from either. Yes, it may have USDA label on it but as long as that animal was packaged in the US, it can be called a Product of the USA. The meat in the package is not from one single cow, rather scraps from multiple cows. It could have came from Argentina, Canada, or Brazil.

2. The beef on the right is darker and is farm raised beef. It is filled with more nutrients & flavor. The ground is also from one cow and not just scraps from multiple cows.

3. Buying your beef from a local Farmer/Rancher you are helping to buy a little girl dance shoes or a little boy baseball gear. Buying from the store just lines the pockets of the already wealthy meat packers. Let’s help each other. We help you eat healthy, you help us provide for our families.

It is another beautiful day at the Watertown Saturday Farmer’s Market. Today’s highlights include huge roasting garlic, quail eggs, ground cherries, fresh pears, salt potatoes, and heirloom tomatoes.

Some recipes to inspire you with produce available today:

Ratatouille = onions, garlic, summer squash, zucchini, eggplant, parsley

Salsa = tomatoes, onions, garlic, green or hot peppers

Pork stir fry = cubed pork, onion, shiitake mushrooms, long eggplant, garlic (with oyster sauce)

Spaghetti sauce = Roma tomatoes, garlic, basil

Good Morning 🌞 some of our eggs are not like the others. Our Button Quail just started laying. If anyone is interested we will be at the Farners Market today from 0900-1400 and don’t forget your 5gal bucket for a canners deal.

My, my how the days do fly!! It’s that time again!! Our market has grown by leaps and bounds this year thanks to the new grower interest and the growing support of our community! Come on out tomorrow and enjoy the fresh, delicious bounty we assemble for you each Saturday, all summer long.
