Hey everyone! Due to the rain tomorrow, we're going to have to cancel the canal cruise scheduled for 11am-2pm tomorrow. Apologies, but you all know how nuts the storms can be this time of year.
The next one will be on September 18th. Thank you!
Good morning everyone!
We're looking at the weather as it changes and we may need to cancel the ride Saturday due to Thunderstorms. We will make that call as it gets closer and we see how the forecast pans out.
Let's stay positive and plan for a sunny Saturday with no rain - and just bring our rain jackets in case for now.

Did you know Vern's way is actually on top of a piece of the Cayuga-Seneca canal system?
In this 1874 map of downtown Waterloo, you can see Oak Island and a canal spur that heads North and curves East right behind Main Street where there is a large parking lot now. It's quite interesting to imagine these buildings with their backs to the water loading and unloading goods onto barges pulled by mules and horses.
I can't wait to see folks at the end of the month, where we can all have a chance to be riding "in the canal."

If you haven't had a chance yet - go check out the next ride! It's a Canal Path Cruise, and there will be plenty of stops to discuss history before we have a leisurely picnic at the top of Seneca Lake. LINK HERE >>>> https://fb.me/e/QvzWzLeQ
The map composite here is from 1874, stitching a map of Fayette and Waterloo together. Hand drawn maps are always a bit wonky so the canal/creek doesn't really line up perfectly. I overlayed the current canal trail in red and highlighted in orange some fun ares of interest for our ride. Hope you enjoy!

Last month's Bike Brunch was a lot of fun! We rode around to some of the lesser known historical spots within the Village to see a bridge and a very cute storage building. Can you recognize where they are?
We also had the good fortune of finding a distressed bird struggling with being tangled in fishing line - a problem we quickly alleviated.
What are some cool places you'd like to go on a group ride on?
We're looking forward to the upcoming ride on Saturday - I hope everyone packed their sunscreen and bug spray!

Thanks so much for everyone that came to the first bike brunch. It was a small but dedicated group and we all had a nice picnic reminiscing about days-gone-by over sparkling cider at the Civil War Memorial.
The route went off without a hitch - and we had lots of chances to wave and smile at our Waterloo neighbors as they sat on their porches or walked their dogs. What a great, friendly, walkable community!
Come out to the next one on June 12th!
