Leaves are changing in Alaska, what about where you live?!
This is for Beekeepers in colder climates that want to keep their bees year round! Alaskan winters are 7 months long and beekeepers are still able to keep their bee colonies alive through the cold winter months by winterizing the bee boxes.
Finding a hidden “stud” behind your sheet rock is easy if know this simple hack. Your fasteners (nails screws etc…) will not hold up for long if they aren’t going into the actual framing in the walls. Skip the trip to Home Depot to buy a tool you already own, and the best part is you can find this “stud finder” on your fridge!

The water wheel was the lifeline for communities of old, before the steam engine, using the power of flowing water you could saw lumber, mill grains, make wire, brew beer, etc…The Raney Pipeline supplied this homestead with much needed electricity high in the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. We got some stuff coming down the Raney pipeline soon!

Our friend Dave has one of the best Gardens in our area, always a treat to go over and pick veggies at the ‘neighbors’. I’m really enjoying fall time this year!

Forging steel in a blacksmith shop is something that will always fascinate me. I grew up working with logs and stones, and always felt like there was another craft missing from my repertoire. Sometime later I got myself an anvil and have learned a lot but I’m far from where I’d like to be at it, hoping one day to take on a serious project to hone these old skills that are in many ways vital for a homestead.
