A recent guest told us he ordered Porters throughout his trip to Alaska, from Homer to Fairbanks. His favorite? Matanuska Brewing Company’s Deep Powder Porter!
The beer is one reason we love . The food is the other. The White Cheddar Burger is my favorite, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

With airfares on the rise, this might be the summer for Alaskans to remember that we live in a pretty cool place with lots of space to explore. And with gas prices rising, it would be great to keep driving to a minimum (kind of hard in Alaska, I know).
We put together a guide to some of our favorite things to do within 1–2 hours of Wasilla and Palmer — hikes, glacier views, scenic drives, animal farms, waterfalls, Talkeetna, Hatcher Pass, and plenty of easy day trips that don’t require an airport, a rental car, or a full vacation budget.
If you’re local and looking for a weekend reset, or you have friends and family coming to visit this summer, this one’s for you.

Recent guests visiting from Arizona shared how much they loved their trip to Homer. They asked for local recommendations, and we suggested they take a tour of Kachemak Bay and Seldovia with Rainbow Tours. They told us it was the highlight of their visit!
The 6 1/2 hour tour is one of our favorites and takes guests to Gull Island Bird Rookery, through the Eldred Passage, and stops in Seldovia so guests can get lunch, take a hike, or just soak in the views.
During their tour, our guests saw a variety of seabirds including Kittiwakes, Common Murres, Cormorants and Puffins. And they loved seeing so many playful otters.

When visitors head to the Spit in Homer, Alaska, their goal is likely to eat fish and chips, shop for local crafts and catch a fishing charter. But this little strip of land holds a lot of stories in its tiny footprint.
It was created as a glacier receded and left behind a mix of rocks sediment and soil, known as the terminal moraine. Since then, the Spit has seen coal and gold mining, a railroad along its length, and an earthquake which dropped it about 5 feet into the bay and damaged many of its buildings, including the iconic Salty Dawg Saloon.
This tiny stretch of land now is home to businesses, commercial fishing vessels, seabirds, marine mammals, and of course, tourists.
The Strip is just one reason to visit Homer, Alaska. Summer or winter - Homer is a special place to visit.

Driftwood Dreams was made for families and groups! We love that the teenagers used the game room!
With space to spread out, walkable to Bishop’s Beach and local favorite restaurants, all three units at Tidepool Treasure’s in Homer are a great homebase for a trip to Homer.
