Partner for Surgery is at the frontlines of medical and surgical care in Guatemala, helping impoverished Guatemalans living in remote locations.

Partner for Surgery brings essential healthcare to rural and Indigenous communities in Guatemala, focusing on surgical care, prevention, and health education through local and international collaboration. Children with cleft lip/palate, fathers with hernias, and mothers with early signs of cervical cancer have all received our help. Since Partner for Surgery was founded in 2001, tens of thousands of impoverished Guatemalan children and their families have received medical attention and health education, and thousands of people have received access to surgery. Our staff is present year-round in Guatemala, building trust locally. From our Guatemalan Health Promoters to our medical teams in the field or at our surgical facility, we bridge the language, distance, and cultural barriers, making each patient's long trip from their village and back home again a safe one.

Comprehensive care changed Ruben’s future. 💚

From monthly nutrition support and home visits in Izabal to specialized medical evaluations and cleft palate surgery, Ruben’s care has been connected every step of the way.

Today, he is fully recovered, growing well, and has graduated from our Cleft Infant Nutrition Program. His journey with Partner for Surgery will continue as we support his future healthcare needs.

Ruben’s story shows what is possible when one child receives the right care at the right time.

For Axel’s family, care means knowing someone will keep coming back. 💚
Each month, Community Health Promoter Marta visits Axel’s home in Alta Verapaz to monitor his growth, provide formula and essential supplies, and support his family.
“Thank you so much for everything you have done for my son.”

Through our Cleft Infant Nutrition Program, we bring care directly to families in rural Guatemala.

Two Generations. One Hope.

Isaías and Don Felipe were born generations apart in the same rural community—and with the same condition—but their paths to care have been very different.

Don Felipe waited more than 70 years for help. Isaías, at just 14 months old, is already receiving nutritional support and being guided toward the treatment he needs. For 25 years, Partner for Surgery has built bridges between rural communities and life-changing healthcare—so that distance, poverty, and isolation do not determine who gets the chance to heal.

Their stories remind us why this work matters: the next child should never have to wait a lifetime for care.

Celebrating 25 Years of Changing Lives—One Smile at a Time. 💙
