A moment at the WW2 Memorial in Washington, DC. Things are far from perfect, but grateful to be able to be in a place where we are free to speak and advocate š§” Love this city.
Letās explore this exhibit about money at the American History Museum in Washington, DC! After entering a real vault door, you can learn about the history of money in the United States (and even around the world). From objects, like shells, to metal, to paper, you get a front row seat to numerous rare examples throughout history! Such a cool collection! You can check it out at the Smithsonian American History Museum, 7 days a week, 10-5:30pm. No tickets needed and always free! Def worth a meander!
Living in Washington, DC, it is easy to forget how lucky we are to have so many free museums: The Smithsonian, Library of Congress, the National Zoo, The Peopleās House, and even mini museums like the exhibits at Reagan Airport and Union Station. You could spend days learning and visiting artifacts, art, and history narratives without spending a dime on admission. I feel so grateful that I get to show this amazing city to you š§”
My Cuban American and Puerto Rican heart is so full after visiting Puro Ritmo, the new exhibit on the history of salsa that is currently on display at the Smithsonian American History Museum! This is an incredible opportunity to learn about the origins of salsa. So proud of the Latinos featured in this exhibit, and to be Latina š§” AzĆŗcar!
The updated Bison exhibit at the Smithsonian Natural History museum is a really cool stop! Bison roamed America freely for centuries and then were hunted almost to extinction. Conservation efforts helped rebuild communities, and while they have not reached the extent of their historical populations, their numbers have significantly increased. Definitely worth a meander when at the Natural History Museum in DC!

Love a community moment in a space of central learning! I was in Florida last week for my lovely nieceās high school graduation and had a little time to explore. Went to the and loved this moment where they invited the community and visitors to sit on the stone that will bring tranquility and harmony. As a former employee relations attorney, I also adore how this is used to invite new employees into their existing team. Community moments donāt need to be huge, to be meaningful. Iāll continue to highlight other community moments on this site š§”
An evening to support Ukraine with United Help Ukraine at the Torpedo Factory. One of my dearest besties, Oliya, brought me as her plus 1 to support the country that is so dear to her and her familyās heart. The evening was a great success, with fashion shows, musicians, live art, Ukrainian wine, and love from all those who support their sovereignty.
I love a history āeaster eggā! Jeanette Rankin was the first woman who was elected to Congress. I have passed her statue many, many times, but it wasnāt until a fellow tour guide pointed this out that I discovered the Susan B Anthony coin under her paper on her statue! (This is obviously why tour guides are fabulous ;-)). She was a suffragist, pacifist and steadfast in her beliefs. This is just a small snapshot of who she was, but I discuss her in my āWomenās Advocacy in Capitol Hill Tourā! Come join me to learn more! In the meantime, can you find the coin the next time you are at the Capitol?
Did you know there is a mini museum at Reagan National Airport, DCA? There are lots of artifacts from the airport, early airlines, and even the colonial past of the land where the airport resides! If you have time next time you are there (especially if you are flying out of Terminal 1 -iykyk), check it out! āļø
