The “Notebook First” Rule for AI 📓✨
When my daughter wanted to build an app, we didn’t start with a prompt. We started with a pencil.
I had her draw the screens and map the “why” before touching any tech. Why? Because I want her to be the visionary, not just the button-pusher.
When the AI finally spit out a result, she could actually critique it because she had a plan. 💡
Do you jump straight to the tech, or do you start low-tech first?
On AI Literacy Day, I had the chance to speak with Farida, a global cybersecurity expert on Parenting in the AI era.
While AI can give us quick (and average) answers, I emphasize the need to focus and loving the process of learning.
Part of that effort is letting them fail. Help them understand that the struggle is part of learning. Then help them enjoy it. ☺️

With the push for AI companions and chatbots in social media and AI platforms claiming to be safe for kids, we are starting to see a push to block AI entirely.
As a parent, I think we need to also answer a different and more fundamental question.
How Can We Help Our Kids Build Real Friendships in the Age of Al Companions?
I believe it is doable and anchors on building a support system they can rely on.
A social capital that’s build through family, neighbors, teachers, friends, and community of interests.

A new White House initiative is asking K–12 students to build AI solutions for real-world community problems.
Yes — the Presidential AI Challenge is officially here. It’s meant to inspire innovation, digital wellness, school safety, and new learning models. But for many parents, this raises more questions than answers.
Are our kids ready for this?
Are we?
AI is entering classrooms fast. Whether it’s tools teachers are already using or new student programs like this one — the shift is real and accelerating.
That’s why I’m launching Back-to-School with AI, a practical series for parents starting August 1.
You’ll learn:
• What to ask your child’s school about AI use
• What tools are already showing up in classrooms
• How to support your child’s thinking, privacy, and digital safety
Because raising thoughtful, resilient kids in the AI era requires more than blanket approval or fear. It takes awareness, guidance, and a community that’s asking the hard questions.

What would you do if you were in high school and the essay you wrote yourself gets flagged as AI-generated? 🤔
This actually happened to a student at a youth panel I organized this week.
Her story made me realize how unprepared we are to guide teens through the AI era.
What I learned about teens and AI:
📌 They’re surprisingly optimistic about AI’s potential
📌 “Confused” was their most-used word about AI technology
📌 They master social media but don’t connect algorithms to artificial intelligence
📌 They’re learning from TikTok, not structured guidance
📌 The gap between their digital fluency and AI understanding is huge
The reality? Our kids are navigating this alone.
Tell me:
What are you hearing from teens in your life?
What AI questions are they asking that we’re not answering?
