Cecil B. DeMille's uproarious 1920 marriage comedy WHY CHANGE YOUR WIFE? starring Gloria Swanson, Thomas Meighan and Bebe Daniels screens Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. with live musical accompaniment by Andrew Earle Simpson.

Co-presented by Art Deco Society Of Washington DC, and featuring an introduction by ADSW President Steve Knight.

Natasha Rambova designed the wonderfully elaborate costumes; she would later do the same along with art direction for star and producer Nazimova on CAMILLE and SALOMÉ.

On WHY CHANGE YOUR WIFE? Cowan and Printzlau worked from a story credited to Cecil's brother William, who directed MISS LULU BETT screening Tuesday, November 9 at 7:15 p.m., also featuring live musical accompaniment by Simpson.

Incorporating more than 25 minutes of recently discovered footage, the 2010 restoration of METROPOLIS is the definitive edition of Fritz Lang's science fiction masterpiece. Like puzzle pieces, these scenes and subplots, long thought lost, help to complete the picture of the dizzyingly intricate plot.

Things to See & Do in Brookland DC | Architecture Walking Tour

Hello All! This walking tour may be of interest to those interested in the work of John Joseph Earley. The tour includes the Franciscan Monastery, one of the masterworks of John Joseph Earley. Earley was the noteworthy builder who perfected decorative concrete that we saw during the Art Deco Society’s open house program at one of his Polychrome Houses in Silver Spring a couple weeks ago. Other great JJ Earley projects include Meridian Hill Park and ceilings at the Department of Justice and National Airport historic terminal.

Last Call: Prohibition Lantern Tours

Last Call Prohibition Lantern Tours is back by popular demand at Congressional Cemetery on Saturday August 21. This is a very entertaining evening tour through Congressional Cemetery, as Bootleggers, Flappers, and notable DC residents tell their ghostly tales of DC during prohibition. There are locally sourced 'therapeutic tonics' of the era available for purchase. These tickets will go fast so sign up now.
ADSW President Steve & Board Member David, with spouses, participated in the Last Call tour earlier in the summer. It was a great time with atmosphere, humor, music, and terrific tales. Go prepared with flashlights, sensible shoes, and ID's if you intend to purchase a 'restorative tonic'.
Be sure and post photos of yourselves later if you dress in the 'spirit' of event!

BTW: They sell a great tee shirt of the event in their Last Call Swag Shop. Cocktail anyone?

Last Call: Prohibition Lantern Tours Intended to be the model dry city for the country, Washington, DC ended up with more than 3,000 speakeasies and a widespread disregard for the law of the land. Even Congress employed its own bootleggers, known as the Man in the Green Hat (now immortalized by a locally made gin). Prohibition in DC st...

Whittier Gardens is a lovely little complex of walk up garden style apartments in Takoma. I’ve regularly passed it on the Metro train heading to/from work. Now that long walks are part of daily routine I’m sharing a few shots from a much better perspective. I love variegated silhouette of the parapet, the octagonal windows snd the glass block. The stone entrance and the octagonal glass light in the front door are exquisite. Very elegant facades for such modest buildings.
