In Arequipa, Peru, hundreds of women begin their work before sunrise—collecting recyclable materials that might otherwise end up in landfills.
What many people see as waste, they see as opportunity.
Across the city, women recyclers are helping build a more inclusive circular economy by recovering plastic, paper, glass, and metal, supporting their families, and protecting the environment at the same time.
Women make up an estimated 86% of recyclers recovering materials in Arequipa, yet their work often goes unseen.
Their leadership is helping shape a more sustainable future for Peru—one bag, bottle, and community at a time. ♻️

Carlos Cordero didn’t start as a coffee expert. He started with questions.
A smallholder farmer in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico, Carlos first learned about coffee farming through a TechnoServe Facebook post in 2019. That moment led him to a farm visit, training, and eventually planting his first coffee trees.
Today, he is both a coffee farmer and a TechnoServe trainer, helping others in his community strengthen their own farms.

In Peru, Watson Soto took the skills he gained through a TechnoServe program and turned them into opportunity. ☕
What started as a family legacy in coffee farming has grown into a coffee shop and a branded coffee business creating new income streams for Watson, his family, and his community.
At TechnoServe, we believe long-term impact comes from equipping young people with the skills, networks, and opportunities they need to thrive.
