It was supposed to rain, but the sun came out, and so did our amazing MCOP Northern Virginia community! Patients, providers, families, and friends from Fairfax and Leesburg gathered at Lake Fairfax for a day that turned out to be so much more than just a picnic.
From sizzling burgers (thank you, Jon & Jeff!) to face painting, yard games, and tons of bubbles, the day was packed with laughter and connection. Providers Sarah Chaikind, Ben Koch, and Jon Jaskiewicz joined in, catching up with familiar faces, and welcoming new ones.
We were proud to host 5 incredible vendors:

There was bracelet-making for limb loss awareness, chess games, spontaneous soccer, and the highlight of the day - our three-legged mascot Tilly! Her scavenger hunt ended with kids adopting plush pups and designing custom collars - pure joy.
A huge thank you to Grace K**r, our NOVA Patient Liaison, whose thoughtful planning made every detail shine. With sunshine, delicious food, and an atmosphere of pure community love, it was a day weโll never forget.

This ABC News story gives an inspiring glimpse into whatโs happening behind the scenes at Medical Center Orthotics & Prosthetics - Ukraine, where our local team, alongside members of our U.S.-based MCOP staff, are helping rebuild lives every day.
In the video, youโll meet Artem, a soldier who lost his leg in Kharkiv. After more than a year without walking, he received a custom prosthesis at our Kyiv clinic. Just seven days later, he ran a relay race to honor his fallen comrades - a powerful moment made possible by teamwork, skill, and determination.
Our American team recently traveled to Ukraine not only to assist with fittings, but also to train and support our Ukrainian clinicians, sharing techniques and knowledge that will help strengthen care long after they return home.
What youโll also see in this piece is the heart of our mission - the collaboration, the care, and the behind the scenes work that goes into every success story.
None of this would be possible without our partner, Future for Ukraine. Their support is essential - from patient outreach and logistics to ongoing community care. Together, weโre making sure those whoโve given so much receive the care they deserve.
If youโd like to help support more soldiers on their limb loss journey, please reach out to us at:

Weโre excited to share an update on our amazing patient, Cheryl D!
A few months ago, Cheryl visited our Silver Spring clinic to explore prosthetic hand options and had the chance to trial the Taska CXโTaskaโs first small-sized bionic hand. Fast forward to today, and sheโs now using one of her own!
The Taska CX is a major leap forward in upper limb prosthetics. It offers improved dexterity, refined control, and an anatomical design that makes daily use feel more natural. Powered by an advanced motor system, it provides faster, stronger, and more responsive grip performance.
Our upper extremity specialist, Jaime Vandersea, has been working closely with Cheryl to help her get the most out of the handโs 18 integrated grip patternsโcustomized through the Bluetooth-enabled MYTASKA app.
Weโre so proud to support Cheryl on her journey with this cutting-edge technology!

While we often highlight the patients who wear our devices, today weโre shining a light on the skilled hands that help make them. Jeff is one of our most experienced technicians, working out of the MCOP Fairfax Clinic in Virginia.
As an ABC Certified Orthotic Technician since 2012, Jeff brings over a decade of craftsmanship, precision, and care to every orthotic device he helps build. From spinal braces to custom foot orthoses, he doesnโt just assemble components - he engineers solutions tailored to each individualโs needs.
Jeffโs workshop is where raw materials meet real impact, transforming into tools that restore movement and quality of life. Outside the lab, Jeff is just as driven - heโs an avid mountain biker, constantly seeking out new trails and challenges across Virginia.
His story is a reminder that the journey to mobility starts long before a patient takes their first step and itโs powered by dedicated professionals like Jeff.

In 2006, 17-year-old Bryan was chasing summer freedom when a split-second decision changed everything. A spontaneous train ride ended in a traumatic injuryโhis right foot was caught under the wheels after hitting an embankment during a jump.
But Bryan chose to adapt. Still on crutches, he got back on his skateboard. Over the years, his love for movement never faded - he just found new ways to express it.
Fast forward to 2020: Bryan reignited his passion for skateboarding. Nearly five years later, heโs skating regularly at the graffiti-lined ramps of Poe Mill DIY Skatepark - carving lines, learning tricks, and reclaiming a piece of himself.

Bryan credits much of his progress to Sean Wooldridge, his prosthetist at MCOP Greenville, who worked closely with him to build a prosthesis designed for the impact and demands of skateboarding.
At Medical Center Orthotics & Prosthetics (MCOP), we believe recovery is about more than mobility - itโs about returning to the activities and passions that define you.

Surrounded by the rolling hills of Wi******er, a truly inspiring event unfolded during the 3rd Annual Shenandoah University NAGA First Swing Seminar and Learn to Golf Clinic - a day filled with learning, connection, and movement.
This incredible program, presented in partnership with the National Amputee Golf Association (NAGA), offers professional golf instruction not only to differently abled individuals, but also to physical therapists, prosthetists, and other rehabilitation professionals - helping bridge the gap between recovery and recreation.
Participants explored adaptive equipment such as the SoloRider golf cart, activity specific prosthetic devices, and specialized clubs - then took to the driving range to test their skills under sunny skies.
We were proud to see MCOP patients and team members out on the course, joined by Shenandoah University physical therapy students, local therapists, and a fantastic community of adaptive golfers. The range was full of encouragement, high-fives, and celebration โ a powerful reminder that ability is defined by mindset and access, not limitations.

On April 27, MCOP Boston and Team No Limb, No Problem braved the cold, wet, and windy New England weather to take on the 2025 Bionic 5K in Cambridge, MA - and we couldnโt be prouder!
Some ran, some walked, and one of our team members even biked the course. But no matter how we moved, we showed up with grit, heart, and a whole lot of energy.
From patients and clinicians to family and friends, the spirit of support and determination filled the course - reminding us why community means everything.
Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, volunteered, and cheered us on. Weโre already looking forward to 2026โฆhopefully with a bit more sunshine!

At Anderson Prosthetics, part of the MCOP family in Anderson, SC, we had the privilege of teaming up with one of our very own patients โ Ray Jones โ a talented artist and below-the-knee amputee who brought our clinic windows to life.
Rayโs artwork is bold, emotional, and full of meaning. Through his paintbrush, he reminds us that representation matters and that sharing your story can inspire others in powerful ways.
Weโre incredibly proud to not only support Rayโs prosthetic journey, but also to celebrate his creative one. Thank you, Ray, for helping us end Awareness Month on such a strong, meaningful note. The windows look amazing โ and the message behind them is even better.
