Good job Astoria! But also, that last paragraph should not have been written.
Astoria scraps electric scooter plans Electric scooter company Bird won’t be building a nest in Astoria.
Today we laid to rest our little cafe. I want to thank all of you for your outrageous support. I was hoping to follow up this sentence with something exciting and new, but we are still figuring out our next moves.
As for now, Tom was fortunate to score a great job at the local food bank! He is kicking butt and helping the community and I could not be more proud of him. I am still in limbo as to what the future holds for the Side Road Cafe.
I loved getting to know all of you and I appreciate your patience with us as we learned on the fly. This was a dream come true for me and I am heart broken that it ended far too soon. I hope to fill your bellies in the future. It really does bring me such joy. I have missed you all so so so much.
In the meantime, I am filling my schedule with gardening and housecleaning projects. If you find yourself in need of some domestic help, gardening, vacation rental cleaning or any other random projects, feel free to send me a message. I have over 12 years of experience and would like to offer my assistance.
These next few months are still so unknown as our 3 young boys are not returning to school, yet. It is such a hard time to have a family and try to have a career as well. I now my story is not unique, and that is what pains me so. I feel for all of you going through similar struggles. You are not alone.
See you all soon.....
Hey all, with Clatsop County beginning their phase 1 of opening, we here at Side Road Cafe are still planning to take things slowly. We don’t have any plans to reopen at this time. We miss you all and look forward to seeing all your wonderful faces. Stay tuned for any updates. We will make them loud when we are ready!!
As more businesses are trying to stay afloat and adapt at this time, often moving to online ordering, curbside pick up, maybe even delivery options, I find myself feeling disheveled by the idea of community evaporating. It’s one thing to simply purchase a product from a small business that you wish to support. That’s great! But what motivates me to operate a business and to support others is the social community aspect to it that no dollar can ever touch. A place to go and chat and share your day with. To grieve, celebrate, smile, cry, have deep and challenging conversations. To sit in a diverse room void of any rules or affiliations and share a moment together. That my friends is the gravy. Us, community, people are way more important than profits:)
I miss so much about chatting with regulars and looking forward to them stopping in daily. I may be waxing nostalgic here, but I’m old fashioned when it comes to community. It’s really all I’ve craved. It’s why punk rock and diy found me and saved me.
As we contemplate our next moves as a business, I’m less than thrilled to be handing out boxes of vegan biscuits and gravy through a window and a mask. And through it all creating a ton of waste and voiding that human aspect that IS our drive. But, the show must go on and we must adapt. The capitalistic machine bulldozes dreamers and breathers.
Today, I have no answers or solutions. I just know my community is out there contemplating too. In the words of one of my favorite folks, Mike Watt, “ we jam econo.”
Hey all! We miss you guys.
