2024 Solar Eclipse

2:00. Temperatures are warming back up. Birds are singing. Shadows are still weird. Getting brighter by the second.

What a blast!!!

Totality! 1:38-1:42

1:28 ten minutes to totality!

1:25 pm. Just a sliver left.

1:12 pm

Temperature is cooling off.

1:08 pm.

Shadows more weird. Noticeably not as bright outside when the sun comes out.

1:01 pm. A little over half an hour to totality.

12:56. Got a picture through the filter!

12:45 pm CDT

Going to sort of live blog here in Waco.

Clouds. Clouds. Clouds.

Eclipse has begun. The sun pops out from behind the clouds for a brief peek. I can’t get my filter/camera to cooperate, lol.

Shadows are starting to look a little weird.

This gentleman has good information about eclipse glasses. It’s 8 days until the moon blocks our view of the sun.

One thing he did not mention is being sure to read the instructions on your eclipse glasses. They are NOT designed to allow you to stare directly at the sun for hours on end.

Also, if the filter is torn, bent or scratched, the glasses are no good.

It is 71 days until D-day! Time to start ordering your 'sun' glasses for safe eclipse viewing.

As tempting as it may be to use bits and pieces around the house (including welding helmets), these are simply not safe to use when looking directly at the sun. Take a few minutes and order proper eclipse glasses. They are not expensive. I order directly from Eclipseglasses.com and received a pack of 25 in about a week. Other vendors sell on Amazon, but you really don't know if these meet the ISO certification or are unsafe knockoffs. I do not trust them.
