FEATURE OF THE WEEK:

Derrick opened StretchMed Waco in December 2022 with the goal of helping people find relief from chronic pain and mobility issues. With a background in martial arts, running, weightlifting, and military fitness training, Derrick sustained many injuries over the years and understands the importance of stretching to maintain good quality of life. His passion is to help members of the Waco community reach their potential through a holistic approach to health and wellness.

Derrick began his career in 2002 as a Financial Management Officer in the US Air Force where he led teams ranging from 3 to 180 people until his honorable discharge as a Captain in 2009. Since leaving the military, Derrick has worked in the non-profit sector as a Volunteer Coordinator at a homeless shelter and college campus Ministry Director in North Dakota. He invested over 10 years in corporate marketing, serving roles in commercial janitorial services, financial services, and home services with his most recent role here in Waco at Neighborly as a Brand Director for Mr. Electric, Glass Doctor, and Precision Garage Door Service. He has also partnered with other Waco small businesses as a coach to build processes that make organizations more efficient and profitable. Before moving to Waco in 2018, Derrick received two graduate degrees from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities: Master of Arts in Strategic Communication in 2014 and Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing Strategy in 2016.

Born and adopted in Puebla, Mexico, I moved around the US before calling Waco home. After studying Film and Digital Media at Baylor University, I spent eight years in Lubbock before returning to Waco in November 2022 to start my video production ventures: The Wedding Filmery and 2024 Productions. I’m proud to have family in Waco, San Antonio, and Houston. When I’m not capturing stories on film, you can find me enjoying movies and TV, running an online trading card store, or strumming my guitar.
