Every public ritual carries a message. When the nation lowers its flag, it is not only about honoring the dead, it is about shaping the living. In my new essay, I explore the politics of mourning and the selective grief that divides us. This is part of my ongoing series on how we connect, grow, and wrestle with meaning in tense times. I would love your comments.

At Trans4mational Conversations, we believe change happens through tough but grace-filled dialogue. This piece is part of that mission—naming tensions, inviting courage, and modeling how to engage without surrendering love. I’d love to hear your take after reading: How can we keep building spaces where truth and compassion meet?

I admit, my first reaction was WHAT?!?!
Then I read more. A national hymn to accompany the national anthem. That's a novel idea worthy of discussion. What do you think?
To help heal racial wounds, Black national anthem would become America's hymn under proposal To help heal racial wounds, U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn is pushing to make "Lift Every Voice and Sing,'' the Black national anthem, America's national hymn.
