Blackstone VA Walmart not adhering to CDC or VA guidelines for Covid-19. Want to bring this to everyone's attention. Last night I visited the Walmart to get some essential items. I was dismayed by the lack of adherence to Covid-19 precautions, actually utterly disgusted. Either the folks of Blackstone, at Walmart anyway, have been living under a rock, or don't have any TVs, or phones or anything else linking them with th eoutside world, or they don't have people in their household to protect, or they simply don't care at all. But if you do not want to get infected with Covid-19, do not go to Walmart! A list of the issues follows: 1) Employees huddling together all over the store; 2) Employees huddling with customers within a foot at the most; 3) No wiping down of any of the carts or self serve counters after each customer usage, or any customer usage (shortage of staff is not an excuse, as there were plenty standing around seemingly doing nothing); 4) No wipes available upon entering the store to wipe down carts; 5) No signs worthy talking about to notify customers of the need to be 6ft apart; 6) employees were not wearing any safety protection, no masks, shields, gloves or anything; 7) customers were walking right up behind, passing other customers without any regard for social distancing whatsoever. AND customers apparently completely obvlivious to the concept of social distancing. Social distancing is NOT disconnecting from social media!!!! You are supposed to remain 6ft away from anyone else you come into contact with, other than household members, no matter where you are or who you are with please do not be ignorant, selfish, or put others at risk. When I brought this to the attention of some of the employees, they looked at me as if I was from outer space!!! Now compare this to Food Lion at Victoria, night and day. Employees at that Food Lion were wearing shields on their faces, big signs up and wiping down surfaces, carts, baskets, counters at cashiers, after each customer. Kudos to Food Lion in Victoria and shame on Walmart in Blackstone. Please stay away from Walmart if you want to stay healthy, if you want your loved ones to stay healthy.

My fundraising will support the Parkinson's Foundation and help serve the Parkinson’s community by:
· Understanding Parkinson’s through research toward a cure
· Ensuring better care for everyone living with Parkinson’s
· Educating and empowering the Parkinson’s community

Home grocery delivery is suddenly the "new" thing, but I seem to recall there was at least one grocery store in Victoria that delivered - I have a faint memory of an old delivery van parked downtown, likely in the '50s. Yes? No?

Recommendations for Trunk or Treat

COVID-19 has presented challenges for all of us since March of this year. With Halloween just around the corner, this is no exception.

Trunk or Treat will be held in the area of Victoria Railroad Park on Saturday, October 31st from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM. CDC recommendation's will be followed including social distancing, hand sanitization, and use of masks. The Town of Victoria will provide signage for social distancing as well as hand sanitizing stations around the event.

For the distribution of candy, it it recommended that the candy be prepackaged to allow for easy distribution and to limit the handling by multiple hands. It is also recommended to have a table or some means to distribute the candy that incorporates social distancing. Eventhough this is an outdoor event it is also recommended that masks or face coverings be used by participants.

If there are changes in CDC or state guidelines prior to the event, the event will be modified to meet those recommendations.

No Pool Season for Summer of 2020

After many weeks of waiting and hopeful optimism it is with great sadness that we announce that the Victoria Pool will not open for the summer of 2020. Even though the governor announced that Virginia will enter Phase III next week there are not many weeks left before the planned beginning of the 20/21 school year for Lunenburg County Public Schools. With all of this in mind the Victoria Pool will not open for the summer of 2020 but plans are in the works for the summer of 2021. We are very sorry that we cannot provide this amenity for citizens and visitors this year.

Victoria Community Pool

The Town of Victoria is still struggling with the decision on opening the community pool this year. As Virginia entered Phase 2 last Friday, new guidance was issued on opening public pools which allow pools to open for specific purposes with strict requirements. The requirements of Phase 2 are as follows:

Pools may be open for lap swimming, diving, exercise, and instruction only;
Lap swimming must be limited to three persons per lane with ten feet of physical distance per swimmer;
Diving areas must be limited to three persons per diving area with ten feet of physical distance per diver;
Swimming instruction and water exercise classes must be limited to allow all participants to maintain ten feet of physical distance at all times;
Seating may be provided on pool decks with at least ten feet of spacing between persons who are not members of the same household;
All seating (including lifeguard stations) must be cleaned and disinfected between uses;
Employees working in customer facing areas are required to wear face coverings over their nose and mouth;
Provide hand sanitizing stations, including entrance/exit and where shared equipment is utilized;
Facilities should screen patrons for COVID-19 symptoms prior to admission to the facility.

Given the above strict guidelines and the design of the Victoria pool we are not able to open at this time. The Town of Victoria wants to desparately open the pool for our citizens and visitors but unfortunately we can't. As the guidelines for Phase 3 come out, those guidelines and the a length of remaining pool season will be taken into consideration for opening. As soon as more information comes available we will pass it on. 06/09/2020

Normally this past weekend, Memorial Day weekend, would have been the annual opening of the Victoria Public Pool for the summer season, but not this year. We have not begun work on opening the pool because VDH guidelines at the current time do not allow us to open. We are awaiting the guidelines for Phase II to see if we will be able to open. We want to open the pool but we must also follow VDH guidelines as that is who the pool is permitted through. The Virginia State Parks announced this week that none of their pools including the splash park at Occoneechee State Park in Clarkesville will open for the 2020 season. As we learn more about the Phase II guidelines we will make a decision on opening the pool for the 2020 season.
