Today my sweet Mercy graduated from two and half years of speech therapy. I am so proud of her hard work. She started out with a year and a half speech delay and her younger friends were speaking circles around her. When I realized I could understand less than 5% of what she was saying I decided to seek professional advice from the same group that was working with us for older son's dyslexia and dysgraphia. God has been so gracious to grant us a child that is now singing songs she makes up and even quoting momma from things I spoke days prior. I will obviously have to be more careful what I say. She tries to tell knock knock jokes and says the funniest kid thoughts. I know she is my baby and the last of the bunch, but her words are precious to me. I have heard her memorize and quote scripture this semester and others are finally able to understand what she wants and needs. We get to continue to work on phonological awareness at home but I am so thankful for our speech therapist, Olivia, from Puzzle Piece Therapy Group. She is patient, kind, encouraging, and empowering to me as a parent. I can't say enough about her genuine care for both my children and the blessing she has been to our family. Olivia, thank you for giving us the gift of words in our family. Praising the Lord for my Mercy's voice! May she praise His name in word and deed. Highly recommend Puzzle Piece in Cahaba Heights. We worked with them in the areas of speech, occupational therapy, and ortongilligham remediation. They even do dyslexia testing. #dyselxia #speechtherapy #puzzlepiece
The flavor of the place ~ the zip code I call home ~ doesn't come from the chains stores, fast food franchises or the big box giants. What makes my town special is the establishments operated by people who have the ability (and desire), to care about each of their individual customers. That's something worth keeping.

Visual attention is an area of visual processing necessary to notice details and filter out unimportant information when reading and completing tasks. Your child may be struggling with visual attention if they lose their place when reading, have difficulty with copying from the board, or are unable to replicate an image or pattern even while looking at it. If you are concerned with any of these areas, contact us for an occupational therapy evaluation!

Occupational Therapy Month day 3! Each day, we’re covering another topic that OTs work on with clients to build skills and help their patients thrive!

Today is all about visual attention. Read more about this skill and it’s impact on learning and play: https://www.theottoolbox.com/toys-and-tools-to-help-with-attention/
