Tempered Glass: Why Is It Used So Often?

You've probably seen the word "Tempered" etched into the corner of a glass door or window.

That small stamp means the glass has been specially heat-treated to make it about four times stronger than regular glass.

More importantly, if it breaks, it shatters into small pebble-like pieces instead of dangerous sharp shards.

That's why building codes require tempered glass in many places, including:

🚪 Glass doors

🚿 Shower enclosures

🛁 Windows over tubs

🚶 Windows near doors

⬇️ Low windows close to the floor

🏢 Many commercial storefronts

Here's something many people don't know...

Once glass has been tempered...

❌ It cannot be cut.

❌ It cannot be drilled.

❌ It cannot be resized.

Trying to do so causes the entire piece to shatter instantly.

That's why every custom piece has to be measured perfectly before it's ever tempered.

Precision matters.

🌱 Grass cutting season = broken windows season 🪟💥

Every year we see it:
🚜 Lawn mowers
🌿 W**d eaters
🪨 Flying rocks and debris

…and it only takes ONE small rock to crack a window.

---

💡 What starts as:
• A tiny chip
• A small crack

…can quickly spread into a much larger (and more expensive) problem.

---

⚠️ Broken glass can also become:
• A safety hazard
• A security concern
• An energy efficiency issue
