Been working hard this afternoon trying to write up a sponsorship letter for PTSD, The Invisible Scar.

This has been a very busy weekend, going out to an event for 22 Jumps at Echo Canyon at Camelback Mt to photograph some BASE jumping to go to heading out to Dixxon Flannel Co. to pick up both 22 Jumps and my Brother in Arms Hank Robinson's Hanro Studios Engraving flannel to doing some photo editing today and finishing some edits on the next PTSD, The Invisible Scar story.

Before I even photographed the first participant I was scared as “ALL HELL”, there had been so many horror stories about PTS, and I had no clue what I was getting myself into. The first Veteran answered my craigslist ad, he came into the studio to find out about the project and to see if he was going to be able to help. About 30 minutes into the interview, I noticed him getting a little fidgety, so I asked if he was all right, he said I feel like someone is running right at me with a fixed bayonet ready to kill me. I thought to myself OMG and thought do I really need someone here as an assist or a Doctor or anything else. A few minutes more went by, and he said that he would be ok.

Sven…. Thank you so very much Brother for entrusting me with your story.

Today Sven and I sat for an interview for PTSD, The Invisible Scar. It was a complete honor Brother and thank you for inviting me into your home.

The top photo is a still from the video off my GoPro 10 Black, shot 2 was taken just before we started talking for a lighting test to figure out the settings, and shot 3 is an actual shot during the interview.

I shot almost 90 minutes of video so the will take some time to edit, I will post the story soon and some video.

I am not the greatest writer, but this is Chuck. I interviewed him back in February, I was supposed to view the the interview but when I got home and started to upload the file my CF card was corrupted. With the being said I wrote the “poem” for what I took from our time together. So go ahead and click on the link to read it.

PTS Awareness Month

As society stumbles through their day, week, month, year and life there is 0.5% of our population that cannot be home. They are brothers, sisters, husbands and wives, moms and dads of all colors, nationalities, religions and the list can go on. Society has forgotten these people, they are more worried about how the government is going to take care of them. Our Veterans are there because they volunteered, some say they did it to themselves, well would you have served? I know that some would, but most others would not. We as a whole have forgotten that they are there so we can do as we have for almost two and a half centuries, but when they come home injured whether visibly or not we need to care for them. I am creating a documentary about the injuries we cannot see, PTSD.
When these Veterans come home, the memories of their "Brothers and Sisters", the extreme sounds, the horrific smells and ghastly sites of war are still extremely vivid in their minds. So when a "trigger" is tripped they may drink excessively, take an illicit drug or they may even go off the deep end.
What these men and women want is to be like they were before they were deployed to "the sandbox" (war zone). They want to be able to hear and smell the fireworks of Independence Day, to be able to talk about their comrades without falling apart and not to hurt inside anymore.
Some of the obstacles they need to overcome are the constant sleepless nights with nightmares, the stigmas of having mental health issues, and the biggest one of all, and the "I am a Soldier" syndrome.
Even though these Veterans feel alone, they want to be part of society again. They do not want to hurt from their memories, they want to remember and be able to keep the pain in check. They try to seek out help but they fear the failure in their own minds. The film will concentrate on the struggles of being "I am a Soldier" that doesn't ask for help. They do not want to look weak in front of their peers.
