Today’s pic… stopped by the Arroyo Center for a quick New Year’s resolution workout… and ran into some of the amazing Compass Peacebuilders team. Compass is central to the violence prevention work in Hartford. They’re out in the community every day, deescalating conflicts, building trust, and helping young people get connected to supports and mentors. They’ve changed a lot of lives and saved a lot of lives.

As mayor, we worked hand-in-hand to build their capacity and support their work across the city. This is the kind of thing that makes a real difference on the ground, making our communities safer and stronger. Really proud and grateful for our Peacebuilders.

Your town is paying more for fire trucks because a small number of private equity firms have consolidated the market, leading to higher costs, less competition, and delayed deliveries. That means you paying more in property taxes, and your firefighters have fewer resources and older equipment. Housing and healthcare aren’t the only places where market failures lead to higher costs. And Apple and Google aren’t the only anti-competitive market players out there.
