Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham

In the wake of devastating flash floods in Texas on July 4, we want to share information with you about disaster relief funds. While there are a number of nonprofits raising funds for the communities impacted, we have highlighted two funds set up by community foundations.

If you would like to contribute to relief efforts, you may use your donor advised fund via the Community Foundation donation portal or make a donation directly to the funds via the links below.

San Angelo Disaster Relief Fund - https://loom.ly/okFsAtY
The San Angelo Disaster Relief Fund, established by the San Angelo Area Foundation, will provide financial support to flood victims in San Angelo and surrounding areas.

Kerr County Flood Relief Fund - https://loom.ly/95BnchY
The Kerr County Flood Relief Fund established by the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country will direct funds to vetted organizations providing rescue, relief, and recovery efforts as well as flood assistance. The Fund will support the communities of Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Center Point, and Comfort.

Welcome to San Angelo Area Foundation! :: San Angelo Area Foundation The San Angelo Area Foundation encourages philanthropy and manages endowed gifts in order to match donor interests with community needs.

Here at the Community Foundation, we strive to help organizations become more resilient and grow their capacity. We gave a grant in 2024 to Better Basics to upgrade some technology and provide additional space. Better Basics is dedicated to eradicating illiteracy among children in Central Alabama. They address persistent regional educational disparities through comprehensive reading and math literacy programs and book distribution programs.

Isaiah Smith and Sam Pugh have joined Urban Impact Birmingham to help revitalize Birmingham’s Historic 4th Avenue Business District—one of the last Black-owned business corridors of its kind. With support from the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, they’re helping entrepreneurs grow and honoring a legacy of resilience and opportunity. Read more at the link in the comments!

On August 25th, join us at Red Mountain Theatre for our next Woven Together event: Author and social psychologist Kurt Gray unpacks the science behind our outrage and reveals how empathy, not division, can drive real dialogue. Each year, the Philip A. Morris Fund for the Design Arts sends a cohort of folks to The Walkable City program at Harvard. Last night we were honored to host attendees for a reception in our office. Congratulations to all. Let us know your favorite place to walk to in the comments!

Grant applications for the Philip A. Morris Fund for the Design Arts close at 11:59 PM on June 30! Broadly stated, “design arts” include but are not limited to urban planning; design and the built environment; architecture; graphic arts and graphic design; and landscape planning and design.
