The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham is igniting passion for transformational change

Our Community's Foundation was founded in 1959 by people who believed that Birmingham needed a public endowment to meet its greatest needs and seize opportunities to make life better -- forever. We're still doing that and providing even more ways for you to join us as we bring people together to achieve measurable results and leverage gifts and bequests to create positive change.

In the wake of devastating flash floods in Texas on July 4, we want to share information with you about disaster relief funds. While there are a number of nonprofits raising funds for the communities impacted, we have highlighted two funds set up by community foundations.

If you would like to contribute to relief efforts, you may use your donor advised fund via the Community Foundation donation portal or make a donation directly to the funds via the links below.

San Angelo Disaster Relief Fund - https://loom.ly/okFsAtY
The San Angelo Disaster Relief Fund, established by the San Angelo Area Foundation, will provide financial support to flood victims in San Angelo and surrounding areas.

Kerr County Flood Relief Fund - https://loom.ly/95BnchY
The Kerr County Flood Relief Fund established by the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country will direct funds to vetted organizations providing rescue, relief, and recovery efforts as well as flood assistance. The Fund will support the communities of Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Center Point, and Comfort.

Additional information about vetted funds and nonprofits is available through Communities Foundation of Texas. https://loom.ly/PvZ2LBs

Please reach out to our Philanthropic Services team if you have any questions. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the flooding.

Here at the Community Foundation, we strive to help organizations become more resilient and grow their capacity. We gave a grant in 2024 to Better Basics to upgrade some technology and provide additional space. Better Basics is dedicated to eradicating illiteracy among children in Central Alabama. They address persistent regional educational disparities through comprehensive reading and math literacy programs and book distribution programs.

Discover why we’re more alike than we think, and how understanding our emotions can bridge even the deepest divides.

Presented in partnership with Leadership Birmingham and Alabama Humanities Alliance with support from Alabama Power. Our friends from Thank You Books will also be on hand with copies of "Outraged: Why We Fight About Morality and Politics and How to Find Common Ground" available for purchase and signing. "Establishing an agency endowed fund at the Community Foundation made sense for us financially - the fees are a good deal for the services they provide and the minimum to start a fund was within our reach. Being part of the Community Foundation offers us more visibility to potential donors - we've raised money in a short period of time because people trust the Community Foundation." - Camille Spratling, Executive Director of the Railroad Park Foundation.

Agency endowed funds are a great way for non-profits to ensure organizational longevity. Contact our Philanthropic Services team to establish a fund for your organization!
