Weapons Workshop this Saturday!
Here's a message from Damir Sensei about the event.
Open to all, this Saturday we will have a mini-workshop. Content will focus on aikido sword, using bokken (wooden swords).
10:30 - 11:30 - Basics of solo practice
(Suburi and 8 movement sword form)
11:45 - 12:45 - Basics of partner practice
(8 of the 12 partnered movements)
This is open to all Austin Aikikai members, shinkage members, and visitors. The first hour will introduce basics and, even for experienced practitioners, will offer a chance for correction and improvement. The second hour will present what I expect all dojo members to learn.
Two important points.
1. Some of you have been missing practice during the covid time
This can be a chance to restart or reinvigorate your practice.
2. This is a fund-raising event with no fixed fee but any level of contribution is appreciated. There will be some suggested levels forthcoming.
Take care and see you this weekend,
Kushu

We are building back after a long absence for many of us, which means that all of our classes are very beginner-friendly and small right now. So if you've ever considered taking up aikido, now is a great time to start!

After careful consideration of our situation in light of all of the consequences of COVID-19, we have decided not to work with AISD to offer classes for PE credit in the Spring semester. This was a hard decision for us because we believe in the value of aikido for young men and women and we will reexamine this again in May for the Fall semester.

“There are often those who fancy themselves great by virtually knocking their partners down flat on the mat. Their concept of hard training is utterly wrong.
The essence of real training lies in the throwing process. When let loose mercilessly, Aikido techniques do not allow Ukemi (defensive rolls and somersaults).
It therefore behooves you to throw your partner in such a manner that he can respond with Ukemi without fear of injury. The purpose of Aikido training is to build up strength, not to inflict injury.”

Due to scheduling conflicts, this evening's class is cancelled.

We are sad to announce that Florida Winter Camp 2021 is postponed until further notice due to Covid-19.
