BREAKING: Oregon is moving to protect one of the ocean’s most intelligent animals.
Oregon lawmakers want to ban octopus farming before the industry starts. Octopuses aren’t like other farm animals. They solve problems, recognize faces, and can escape enclosures. In the wild, they live alone and explore. Farming would likely mean small tanks, constant stress, and a life that goes against their nature.
Scientists and animal welfare experts agree: industrial octopus farming could cause serious suffering. These sensitive animals do poorly in crowded conditions, and we still don’t have a humane way to raise and slaughter them at scale.
Oregon’s plan focuses on prevention. It stops the industry before it can cause harm.
If the bill passes, Oregon will join Washington and California as the third state to reject octopus farms. It also reflects a growing belief in the U.S. that intelligence should be met with compassion.
Should every state do the same? Share your thoughts below and pass this along to someone who cares about the ocean.
