With the Bayard grocery store closing, cooperative development specialist with the University of Nebraska, Cindy Houlden, is working with the community to find the best solution for the future.

In a recent conversation with Brad Moline, President of ALLO Communications from Imperial, Nebraska, he discussed the decision that he and his wife made to move back to rural Nebraska many years ago. The decision was made easier because their children and wanting a quiet, safe place for them to grow up.

Rural Nebraska is often thought of as being "all the same," but there are often many cultures that make up the traditions and festivities in a town. Highlighting this asset is a good way for rural communities to attract prospective residents from all types of backgrounds.

In a recent conversation with Derek Russell from Imperial, Nebraska he said, "In a small town you know almost everyone, and you have real conversations when you meet people on the street or at the store." Living in a rural area gives residents a chance to form relationships with one another.

Accessing quality health care services is important to people as they consider where to call home. Pointing to available services in your community or nearby communities helps assure prospective residents that their health care needs can be met close to home.

Employment is often the first point of introduction to a community for prospective residents. Highlighting the job opportunities available, along with the quality of life your community offers, is key to attracting residents.
