The ridiculous attack on women in ministry 11/06/2026

"To say it louder for those in the back, God can call literally whomever God wishes to do God’s work — and it is utterly, breathtakingly arrogant to claim this is not the case. Scripture and history are full of examples of God doing just that."

BSK President, Dr. David Cassady, responds to Al Mohler and the Southern Baptist Convention on their recent vote to further restrict women from pastoral roles in churches. Click the link below to read!

The ridiculous attack on women in ministry As the president of another Kentucky-based seminary, I have to note Al Mohler’s forced conversation on women in ministry, like so much in our world today, is ridiculous. Those like Mohler wish to drag us into a debate about “what does Scripture say” and then claim their interpretation is someh...

BSK has long supported, affirmed, and advocated for women in ministry, and we remain committed to doing so!

Today, the SBC voted again to further restrict women in pastoral roles in churches all across the country.

Baptist Women in Ministry laments this decision and the harmful messages it amplifies.

Convention votes do not decide who is called to pastor, preach, or minister.
Convention votes do not dictate whose callings churches can affirm.
Convention votes do not determine women’s value to God or the church.

Yet convention votes do cause real harm to women and girls.

We express our solidarity with the women in ministry who have been harmed by this vote and the rhetoric surrounding it. Women in ministry deserve affirmation, respect, and the opportunity to follow God’s call.

We remain steadfast in the truth we proclaimed for millions to see: God calls women to pastor, preach, and minister.

Did you know BSK students are spread across 19+ different states? This means community is formed across the miles in virtual classrooms. Students bring their own context to class discussion, taking part in theological education from where they live and serve. Because of this, commencement also looks a lot like a “homecoming” of sorts. You can see it in the smiles as our students (now alumni!) re-connected with one another a few weeks ago!

We’re so proud of Dorian!

This week we are celebrating our CBFVA seminary graduates. Dorian Medeiros is a graduate of , and has this to share:

What first led you to seminary?
What first led me to seminary was a transition in my role at church. My title changed from Children’s Director over the weekday school to Children’s Pastor, which also included leadership of the children’s ministry. As that shift happened, I felt a need to grow deeper in my understanding of ministry, theology, and pastoral care. I originally requested to attend seminary and planned to complete only a three course certificate. What began as a small educational step unexpectedly became a journey toward completing my master’s degree.

What is one lesson or experience from seminary that will stay with you?
The realization that we are all still learning. Ministry is not about having all the answers or presenting ourselves as people who have figured everything out. In fact, trying to have all the answers can limit our sense of wonder about God. Seminary taught me that faith often grows most deeply through curiosity, humility, and conversation. That experience reminded me that God is far bigger than our understanding and that there is beauty in continuing to learn throughout our lives and ministries.

Where do you sense God leading you next?
I sense God leading me toward providing deeper pastoral care, regardless of the context in which that happens. Throughout seminary, I have become increasingly aware of how much people long to feel seen, heard, and cared for in authentic ways. Whether in ministry with children, families, students, or adults, I feel drawn toward walking alongside people during moments of grief, uncertainty, healing, and growth. I do not know exactly what that will look like in the future, but I do know that God continues to call me toward compassion, presence, and listening. More than anything, I hope to be someone who reflects the love of Christ by creating spaces where people know they are valued, supported, and deeply loved by God.What snack fueled you through late night studying?White cheddar popcorn will always be my guilty pleasure but in the last month of capstone rewrites, a deeper appreciation for blue sweet tarts came into being. But, they must be the blue!
