This weekend felt like a perfect time to check this little project I've had taking up space in the back of my mind off my list. However, even after adding a touch of warmth to our table scape, I still find myself longing for the return of warmer months and longer days.

I had always imagined a wood vent hood for this kitchen, so when I stumbled across post of their plaster vent hood I was taken aback. I wasn't sure if white would be the right move for this kitchen so I opted for a faux concrete finish using Henry's 549 Feather Finish from with the thought that I could always paint it white if need be. The barnwood is from an old corn crib that is actually located about 5 miles north of our property that we've been holding on to for a number of years. It's turning out to be one of my favorite elements of this kitchen and one of those projects that turned out better than I could of ever imagined.

I was offered the great pleasure of talking to these bright young students at the Washington Kirkwood Regional Center about all the construction industry has to offer them earlier this week.
As Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future."

All hands on deck this weekend to finish up install of the kerdi waterproofing system. Or should I say beaks? 🤔🐓

A little Sunday landscaping does the mind some good. It truly amazes me what landscaping can do for a property's curb appeal, only 214 more edgers to go.

A lot of people ask why we are putting so much effort into a house that isn't our forever home; why we don't put up new over the old and move on to the next like others before us. This is not our forever home. I can't say if we'll end up bringing babies home to this house. I can't say our grandbabies will drive by and talk about this being our first home in 60 years. But I think there's something to be said about doing something right even if no one else is.

Happy Mother's day! I got to spend the afternoon in the shop with one of my sweet nieces. She fell asleep in the middle of my lecture about different hardwood species but that's okay, there will be many more of these days to come. I hope these kind of days stay with her; I hope they show her the beauty of hard work and most of all I hope they inspire her to chase her dreams.
