Alexa and Scott were amazing… their wedding in the fall of 2021 was so beautiful and so personal.

1:25pm I got a call from Texas asking about my availability for that day. I said I’d love to help, but I’m in New England! Turns out she was calling for a friend in MA. They were on a group work zoom, and in a private chat the bride confided that their officiant in RI had cancelled last minute. They'd planned to drive to Providence, get their license and marry that evening. So her friend muted herself, googled… and found me.

2:15pm I spoke to the bride, they're ready to jump in the car but hubby-to-be couldn’t find his birth certificate! A RI requirement. They searched an hour through boxes (as yet unpacked in their new house) but no luck… She sounded so disappointed and resigned that this couldn’t happen on the day she wanted.

30 seconds after hanging up my brain says, wait, they live in MA! MA doesn’t require birth certificates. And I call her back. She asks about MA's 3 day waiting period. I said in bigger cities there’s a judge in city hall… they’ll waive that waiting period on request. No guarantees, but it’s worth a shot.

Mind you, it's now 3:10pm. City hall closes at 4:30pm.

Somewhere in all this, I’d emailed her both applications, RI and MA, so she had all the forms.

3:55pm she texted me that they were waiting for the judge. I had my fingers crossed, also waiting.

4:38pm, she texted me a picture of her license!!!! She got it done! At this point I was almost as invested in this happening as they were! I met them at a restaurant near me, we sat at a table, they held hands, and I married them. It was wonderful. The hostess took a picture for us.

Mind you, we never talked about money or fees. So as I was getting ready to leave them for their celebratory dinner, she asked what she owed me. I said whatever you think is appropriate works for me, this was fun. She ended up sending me a very generous fee… and buying me a dirty martini (which I drank at the bar while reading a book).

It was a good day ♥

The Best Decision You'll Make

I don't know where to begin. My husband and I had a tough time finding an officiant that felt right for us. While romantic, we are pretty private people. We did not want a religious ceremony and were not one a lot of extra flair. We are also pretty progressive, so there were things about the ceremony that I personally wanted to avoid. The officiants that I came across felt cheesy and cookie-cutter to me. I wanted something different and I couldn't quite put it into words. THANK GOODNESS I found Pamela. Pamela took the time to really get to know me and my husband. It was really important to her that she understood and honored our wishes and vision for the venue. There were many times where my husband and I looked to her for guidance and she helped us to figure out what we want and personalize the process for us. One example was that I didn't like the language that my father would "give me away", however, I'm very close to my dad and I still wanted him to walk me down the aisle and to give my dad that moment. Pamela and I had multiple conversations and emails about the right way to word it so that it still felt special. Pamela came up with a beautiful speech referencing my fathers support from my first steps as a child to the steps we took down the aisle, and went on to ask if he supports me and my husband in our marriage. Needless to say my mom was in tears and my dad actually asked Pamela for her script so that he could keep it (which she gladly gave him). Pamela and her husband actually joined us for cocktail hour and then (as we had some no-shows) stayed for dinner and dancing. Side note - they can tear up the dance floor! We had guests approaching us all night, telling us how great they thought she was. It was such a special experience. I highly recommend hiring Pamela as your officiant. She'll make sure to make the experience unforgettable.

I’m ready for my Indian ceremony next weekend. It’s so interesting working with different cultures and traditions. Per the couple’s request, yellow robe and a colorful stole. Check! (I happened to have had both) Script written. Check! No kiss to seal the union (it’s considered immodest). But wanting the phones turned off and out of guests hands during the ceremony is universal! 🇮🇳❤️💒🤵🏽‍♀️
