This type of behavior is unacceptable of a school board member. This is the same individual that said those things about Javier and I when we put our applications for School Board position in 2019. He needs to resign! This is not ok!!! Trust has been violated and we, the people, need to hold those accountable. I recommend that you write to the district for Aguinagas resignation.
I demand for Director Aguinaga of Greater Albany Public School board to resign!
School board member to school board member, step down so we as a community can work together to start repairing this damage that has caused.

I believe that every individual has the right to speak their truth. I decided to put in a Public Comment request to have my letter read during today's GAPS School Board Meeting. I am not sure if it will be read, but I have it here for you to read. I believe in transparency and accountability and it is our duty as the public to ensure that we hold our elected officials accountable.
I want there to be accountability towards me - as your Linn Benton Lincoln ESD School Board Member, please hold me accountable on actions or things that I say, or that I could do better. I am always learning, and in no shape or form do I say that I know everything, because I don't. I do everything I can to get you that information, because that is my duty to ensure that you get the information that you are requesting.
Now for my letter... You might not like it, you might think I am wrong, and that is your prerogative. But it is my personal opinion and as a parent whose children attend GAPS, it is my truth.
Here it is:
Dear Madame Chair and Board,
I am writing this public comment as a parent of whose children attend Great Albany Public School and not as an elected official.
I would like to say first and foremost, that I appreciate the work that Superintendent Goff is doing for our school district. Her work in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is very important and I cannot stress enough how important that this work needs to continue.
I do want to bring up a matter that I feel that the board should have done their due diligence in communicating to families whose children attend GAPS. It is the School Districts responsibility that there is a clear path of communication between the School District and the families in GAPS. That communication was not done prior to the first day of school regarding Police Officers and Fire Department being at the schools. I do have to admit, I was a little shock to see a Police Officer at my kids’ school, and it did set off some red flags. However, later in the day it was indicated that this presence caused trauma to many of our BIPOC children and families. I believe that it was YOUR DUTY to ensure that the School Administration had sent out an email prior to schools opening to let families know that the presence of Police Officers and the Fire Department were going to be at the school to welcome our students.
I understand that the stress and the excitement of going back to school may have caused this to slip between the cracks, but it is YOUR DUTY to ensure that communication is given to families and ask those questions in how this is being applied to the Equity Lens that you have implemented.
I do not believe this falls on Superintendent Goff, but mostly it falls on you. You did not ask those questions, you did not ensure that there was clear communication to families, and thus falls on you. The trauma that this caused to many of the families because of the lack of empathy and communication is what made this issue bigger than it should have been, if you had simply done your due diligence in ensuring that communication was done. Many of our families did not know this was a tradition – I certainly did not, and there were many new families entering the school district that did not know of this either.
I am writing this letter, because as elected and appointed officials of Greater Albany Public Schools, you should have asked those questions and not let it all fall on Superintendent Goff, when it was your duty to ensure that all voices where heard, represented, and accounted for.
Take responsibility and do better next time.
-Miriam

Hello my friends!
I first want to say, Thank you so much for your support!!! ¡Muchísimas Gracias!
I know that it has been a while since I have updated or posted to my page. Decided to take some time and spent it with the family. That with much reflection and thinking of what the next steps are going to be, I have decided to continue to use this page as a way to continue on doing the work and ensuring accountability to our state representatives.
I have also decided to use this page to keep you updated on my elected position as a School Board Director for the Linn Benton Lincoln ESD , Zone 6.
I have also requested to change my page name to Miriam G. Cummins - Representing the People. Let's see if Facebook lets me. :-)
I want this page to be informative and a way that we can connect and still be involved within our community, especially right now during COVID.
Like I have said before, I don't claim to know all the answers, but I am someone that will ask for help.
We are all in this together! And together we will persevere!
It has been a long day and night, waiting for the results. I would like to take this moment and congratulate Representative Shelly Boshart Davis on winning the reelection.
I hope that in me running you will see a new perspective of what residents of HD15 need and to fight for all of us.
Accountability is something that I will hold true to my word in ensuring that those that are elected to represent us that they do their due diligence.
This is not the end of me, and know that I am going to be causing the good trouble.
Good night everyone! ¡Buenas Noches!

I am transparent where I get my money. Is my opponent?
My opponent sent out an email today saying that "[she] just found out that Portland Democrat's are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in a district they are desperate to keep - a district outside of Portland.” She is asking for donations to her campaign.
I am curious... Which district is she referring to? It is not in this race, I can tell you that. I was barely able to raise enough money to even send out a second mailer. My campaign is Grassroots and I am proud of that. Unlike her, I am not getting thousands of dollars from out-of-state corporations!
For example, my opponent received:
*$211,975 in contributions this 2020 year alone!
**Including receiving donations from big out-of-state Pharma Corporations and To***co companies.
I have not received any cash contributions from FuturePAC because I am not in a "targeted race."
In fact, because I refuse to take contributions from big Pharma and big To***co corporations, I am proud of my $33,575.67 that I have raised from individuals that believe in me. Which is only FIFTEEN PERCENT of that of my opponent.
But I am still curious... Which race she is referring to?
Again, I am proud of my Grassroots campaign and of my transparency.

✔️ I will fight for you and make sure that your voice is being heard!
Vote for me, Miriam Cummins for your next State Representative HD15.
Miriam for HD15, bringing Accountability, Advocacy, Representation and Leadership!
I am someone that will fight for you and your family. Your struggles are my struggles.
I have seen, experienced and heard of the disparities that HD15 residents have been dealing with; Public Education, Affordable Living and Affordable Childcare.
Public Education is important to me and believe that all of our children have the right to have equitable education that focuses on their needs so that they can succeed. We are seeing now with Virtual Leanring the hurtles and struggles that many of our children and teachers are experiencing and we need to make sure that we have the tools and resources for our schools to succeed.
Affordable Living - we need to make sure that our families have the wages that they deserve, affordable health care to all Oregonians, and having unemployment benefits to those that need it in a timely manner, and not wait more than 8 weeks to get their first check.
Lastly, I am going to work with organizations like the Oregon Childcare Project, in which we will fight and advocate for all families to have affordable childcare that is culturally relevant and high quality care. I hear you, I see you and I will fight for you! Vote for Miriam Cummins for State Representative for HD15.
It truly is so important that every one of us votes. Please return your ballot, if you haven't already, and encourage everyone you know to do the same.

Today was surreal! We received our ballot and we voted! This was the 3rd time that I got to vote for myself. (Twice last year..... one time for GAPS School Board and the other time for LBL ESD Board).
This time it felt different. My name was in the same ballot that of Kamala Harris. Something that I will forever cherish and remember.
My voting strategy is: Vote Early and Vote the same day you get your ballot!
Now more than ever you need to vote.
