Part of managing loneliness involves learning how to have a higher self-worth and independence. Studies have found that those who feel lonely typically have a lower self-esteem. The inverse could also be true— those with higher self-esteem typically feel less lonely.

In order to build self esteem, we need to focus on self-compassion rather than being too hard on ourselves, engage in positive self-talk, and challenge negative beliefs about ourselves. Teach these concepts to your teens, and remember, we lead by example.
