Finding the right mic, or the right combination of mics, can add so much to your mix. Going direct only on this recording would have been such a missed opportunity. The shure beta 52a provided a very tight focused sound. The wa87 (u87 clone) provided lots of high end detail, while the WA 47 tube condensor (u47 tube clone) provided a smooth, natural warm tone for these bass takes. We ended up not using the sm7b, or the direct in for these takes at all.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of working with Tucson, Arizona's very own "Eased." We recorded a live set in the studio, and filmed it simultaneously. These guys are the ultimate mix shoe gazing desert rock, and oldschool emo. They have a large surreal sound that brings the energy. I can wait until we can share the finished product. These are some snap shots from Sunday.
