Another new project! These blanks have been glued up on a shelf for quite a while. With the nice weather my mom asked that I finally finish them. These wine caddies are a great way for me to use some of the leftover cuts that are too small for cutting boards and are a fun way to bring your summer drink to your patio.

The dark one is walnut with some maple and padauk accents. Theres some imperfections so I’d like to see $15. The lighter one is maple with Purple Heart and cherry accents. This one’s much cleaner so I’d like to see $20. These are finished with a lacquer instead of food safe wax so that hopefully any drips won’t be absorbed into the wood.

I also finished this beautiful handled cutting board over break. I was requested to be mostly neutral/natural colors to blend in with decorations. Walnut, cherry and maple were chosen. Check out the grain differences between the walnut on the ends and the walnut in the middle! It’s neat to see such variation in the same species!

I learned A LOT on this project.

Routing to shape against a template on wood nearly 2” thick when my bit was only 1 1/2” meant several passes. I had a tearout issue rounding one corner that required some patching. Using a router to clean out the bowl sections was a new experience that proved challenging when my sections got larger. We had to watch some YouTube to see the best, safest way to solve that issue. I was floored at how much the color of the wood changed as I started digging into it. And just when I thought the more frustrating steps were over I had to figure out the best way to sand all these sections! 😬

It’s not perfect but for the first time attempting a tray like this I don’t think it’s bad.

How about this big guy!?! A custom order for Christmas that challenged me to think of a different way to do several steps.

This board is basically 2 of my previous biggest boards joined together using dowel pins to promise perfect alignment on the glue up. It was challenging and fun and turned out beautiful!

Oh, and I had to dress up for school on the last day before Christmas break. My dad’s jacket seemed appropriate!
