What if your next flight was fueled by a forest? 🌲✈️

At Mississippi State University, Dr. Courtney Siegert is exploring how trees and bioenergy crops can be part of a more sustainable future. From clean drinking water to carbon storage, her research shows that forests give us far more than just timber.

She studies how restoring longleaf pine ecosystems supports wildlife and how smart forest management can protect water resources for communities across the Southeast.

Forests are working harder than we think—and her research helps us see just how much they give.

Duane McLemore knows what it means to take a chance on your future.

Raised in rural Indiana, he became a first-generation college student and built a global architecture career. Now, as an assistant professor at Mississippi State, he’s helping students find their path—and giving them tools that go beyond the classroom.

His newest project? A 3D Print Corps program that teaches students how to build, troubleshoot, and master 3D printing from the ground up—just like he did.

“I plan to find the kids that have the fire for it and feed that fire,” McLemore says.

Congratulations to Colin Christian and John Paul Wallace!

Both have successfully completed the ORED Project Coordinator Associates program and have secured full-time positions on campus.

This year-long pilot initiative, launched by ORED Vice President Dr. Julie Jordan, equipped recent MSU graduates with hands-on project management experience. Participants gained exposure across multiple ORED and university units, led real projects, and built the skills needed for long-term career success.

John Paul will be joining the Mississippi State University Foundation as a Stewardship Coordinator.

Colin is now part of MSU's T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability as a Project Coordinator.

We’re proud of their hard work and excited to see all they accomplish in their new roles!
