Just when you are starting to heal from one loss, life says, ānope.ā Our maker community lost one of the nicest, most compassionate people that I have had the pleasure of calling my friend. We didnāt hang out every day, but when we did, it was we just saw each other.
This first photo is of a Kira Dashi blade that Steve made for me. He messaged me one day and asked for my new address. Next thing you know I have this beautiful piece of art.
The second picture is of a blade that he and I came up with when I went to see him in Upper Black Eddy for a whole day of forging with my bud. I will finish it one day in honor and memory of him.
The third is a knife I made at a knife class up in East Durham a few years ago. That class really changed my thought process and I got to meet some amazing people. JD () and I became partners in crime and instant lifelong friends.
I didnāt get to see Steve at the last MakersCamp, and that sucks. Over the last week while Iāve been working in the shop I have noticed both of these knives just collecting dust. When I see them I automatically said that I needed to call Steve and finally firm up plans to have me and my son come out for another fun day of forging; or thought about that amazing bbq chicken and how much I need that recipe. Maybe it was Steve making his rounds before his final farewell.
Donāt ever pass up an opportunity to spend time with people that are good for your soul. You will be missed my friend. I will forge (pun intended) on and keep seeking out knowledge to better myself as a person and a maker. Rest easy Steve!

Iām just about wrapped up with my new shop cabinets and I wanted to give a sneak peak! I had a lot of old mahogany deck boards sitting up in my lumber racks and I figured that itās been a while since the last time I used some for my sonsā bedroom shelves. I milled up a few boards and used it as the edge banding on my cabinet tops. It looks pretty stinking fancy if you ask me. I donāt know what Iāll do when I run out of the mahogany. š© maybe itās overkill but if these boards could hold up being decking in the northeast then I figured they would be perfect for the workshop. My TwoBit shop cabinets coming soon!

Finally got all of the drawers and trays installed on the new shop cabinets. Just finished gluing up the second set of boards that will become the countertops for the cabinets. The finish line is within reach, and getting closer every day.

Making more progress on the shop cabinets. Today is drawer day in the shop. Since these are shop cabinets, I went with 1/2ā plywood boxes with 1/4ā plywood bottoms, and I am using a decent plywood rather than the very expensive stuff. Iām not planning on storing a massive amount of weight in these drawers and trays, but I know they will hold up to anything I put in them. And the best part⦠they are cheaper to build. Canāt beat that!
One thing that I do love using is this new cordless glue gun. It sits in the charger and then I can pick it up and use it cordless for a few minutes before I need to return it to its charger. Great tool!!!

Here are some shots from a project that I recently finished. I built this flower bar cart for local florist . The top was outsourced to a local metal worker. You gotta love it when everything comes together perfectly in the end. I really enjoy working with other local businesses.

Starting to get into the swing of it again. French cleats going up and Iāll be hanging my clamps in that location for now. Im excited to get back into organizing my new shop. I am thinking about making a lot of new French cleat pieces to help store things along with a fold down or up desk/work surface.
