Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in America. It's one of the most important days we can show up for as a community. It's a day to celebrate freedom, honor history, and stand in solidarity with the people who have been fighting for it the longest.
Join Northern Michigan E3 this Friday, June 19 to do exactly that.
The evening includes youth activities, local food trucks, story time, a community program with guest speaker Tyasha Harrison and performer Crystal Woodward-Turner, and a Family Freedom Skate to close out the night.
All are welcome. We hope to see you there.

The Great Lakes hold 84% of North America's surface freshwater. Enbridge wants to dump up to 7 million gallons of industrial wastewater a day into them -- and that's if nothing goes wrong.
Enbridge's plan for the Straits of Mackinac is to drill a brand new tunnel through fractured claystone directly beneath their existing 73-year-old pipeline, while it's still operational.
This is not a drill.
Tunnel expert Brian O'Mara has raised serious concerns about methane deposits directly in that drilling path. A methane explosion in the Straits of Mackinac isn't a worst case scenario someone invented. It's what the experts are warning about.
π¨ The public comment window closes June 30 and EGLE is listening right now.
You don't need to be a scientist or a lawyer. You just need to say something. A few sentences from a real person in this community carries real weight in the public record.
Every single comment matters and they are counting on you staying quiet. Don't.
Submit your written comments directly to EGLE before June 30. There's also a virtual public hearing this Thursday June 18 at 6PM EST if you want to show up live.

Imagine a political system that reflects your values, communities, and lived experiences.
That's the system that The People's Coalition fights for every day.
Join them this Friday, June 19 @ Bryant Park (1101 Peninsula Dr) in Traverse City from 5pm - 7pm, to learn more about turning out voters this election season.
Their work has been instrumental in amplifying the voices of working class Michiganders, pushing back against corporate influence in politics, and creating a government that works for all people -- not just political insiders and their big money donors.
They also almost always have snacks too!

*UPDATED* Grand Traverse County has a meeting THIS Wednesday (6/17), and we have an update: Twin Lakes Park WILL be on the agenda, but it's going in closed session.
That's not good enough.
In August 2024, 91-year-old Jim Gallagher showed up to a deposition with an oxygen tank to fight for this park. His fight continues to this day.
The least we can do is show up on Wednesday.
Here's why this matters: In 2023, Grand Traverse County illegally gave away a 176-acre public park that was donated in 1941 with one condition: it must remain a county park forever.
They bypassed their own rules to do it, paid Long Lake Township $124,000 of your tax dollars to take it, gave them a cell phone tower lease worth $900,000 over the next 70 years, were sued over the illegal transfer, and when a free settlement was offered to return it at no cost, they rejected it in closed session with zero public debate.
Now attorney Brace Kern has submitted a new complaint letter β received by all Commissioners on June 5, 2026 β giving the County one final chance to resolve this without going back to court, on your tax dollar.
We're glad they're addressing it. But putting it behind closed doors is exactly the problem.
This community deserves a public conversation about a public park.
Here's how you can help:
π Send emails to your GT County Commissioners before Wednesday. Tell them this discussion belongs in public β not in a closed session.
ποΈ Come to the meeting on June 17th at 400 Boardman Ave, 9 am. Speak during public comment and make your voice heard.
(See the attorney's letter, template letter to the commission, full history, and other resources down in the commentsπ)
Our park. Our tax dollars. Our county.
Let's show up.

Somewhere between the UFC commercial at the People's House and the McDonalds birthday cake, maybe someone could unwrap the Epstein files.
Just a thought. π

You paid more federal income tax than DTE did last year. Yes you!
DTE Energy made $1.54 billion in profit last year. How much did you make?
Yet DTE paid zero federal income taxes, for the 12th year in a row.
Now they want another rate hike. A 9.7% one. That's on top of the $242 million hike they already got earlier this year.
Meanwhile the same politicians voting to let them off the tax hook are cashing their campaign checks.
This isn't a DTE problem. This is America in 2026. Full story in the comments. π

TOMORROW (6/14) the People's House becomes the largest campaign commercial ever filmed -- on your dime.
The Trump regime is throwing its dear leader a birthday party in the most fitting way possible: underpaid fighters beating each other up for the entertainment and enrichment of billionaires.
You've got better options...
