On January 27, 2026, Ms. Shirley Raines died at 58 years old. Her nonprofit confirmed her passing. Growing up in Compton, California, Ms. Shirley knew what it was like to struggle and face immense loss. While her 2-year-old son Demetrius was staying at her grandmother's house in 1990, he died from an accidental poisoning. She carried that grief for over a decade, and she would eventually find herself homeless on Skid Row in Los Angeles, California.
In 2017, Ms. Shirley joined her church group and handed out free meals to people on Skid Row. And while serving meals, she came face to face with people living on the same streets where she had once lived and felt hopeless. That is where she got the idea to start "Beauty 2 The Streetz," a nonprofit that provided meals, hygiene supplies, haircuts, and makeup to people many had forgotten about.
Ms. Shirley started posting videos of the interactions she had with the people on Skid Row, and pretty soon she had millions of followers who were deeply moved by the love and dignity she showed. She wasnโt just doing charity work. She was setting a powerful example of what it means to help others, especially those on the streets who often feel invisible. In her videos, she greeted everyone as "King" or "Queen," and it took a while to earn their trust. But every Saturday, Ms. Shirley would be right there with her cheerful smile and warm energy.
Many people in the country are one missed paycheck or one setback away from living on the streets. Showing kindness and compassion to others, just like Ms. Shirley did for all those years, is what reminds all of us what it truly means to be human.

Dr. Marian Croak made it possible for people to talk to each other online. She holds over 200 patents and helped create the technology that makes FaceTime, Zoom, and WhatsApp possible. As a kid growing up in New York City, she loved watching plumbers and electricians fix things in her home. Her father Raymond Rodgers saw her curiosity and gave her a chemistry set. That small gift sparked her love for science and started a journey that would help billions of people.
Marian joined AT&Tโs Bell Labs in 1982. After a few years, she noticed a big problem. Phone calls still needed wires, and long-distance conversations were very expensive. Marian helped develop Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), which made it possible for voices to travel through the Internet. The early versions failed, but she didn't give up. Her work changed communication forever and helped people stay connected through calls, video chats, and messages.
On May 5, 2022, Dr. Marian Croak was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Today she is Vice President of Engineering at Google. In a 2020 interview with the USPTO, Marian said, "It just helps us to be able to be inspired by someone who is human, who can somehow make what seems impossible possible." Her story shows all of us how curiosity, hard work, and compassion can change the way people communicate. It's important for people everywhere to know and remember her name.

Julian Brown is a 22-year-old inventor based in Georgia who is turning plastic into fuel. His project is called Plastoline, and it uses a scientific method known as microwave pyrolysis, powered by solar panels. The process heats plastic until it becomes v***r, then cools it into crude oil that can be refined into gasoline, diesel or jet fuel. Julian began developing his own version of this system at 17 and built his first small reactor in high school.
On October 4, 2025, Julian started a 2023 Dodge S**t Pack and ran it entirely on Plastoline. He demonstrated it live at a Nissan dealership in Duluth, Georgia. The road hasn't been easy, but Julian refuses to give up. Building these machines costs thousands of dollars, and some parts can reach tens of thousands. Grants have helped him keep improving his designs. Julian says he has tested his fuel and believes it burns cleaner than regular diesel.
Julian stated that he has faced cyberattacks and helicopters flying near his home but remains focused on his goal to help the planet. In high school, he saw a video of a turtle with a plastic straw stuck in its nose. The image broke his heart and made him realize how much plastic harms animals and the environment. Instead of looking away, he decided to act. In an interview with WTVM 9, Julian said, "I see it now as, let's get it in the world and implemented. That's the whole point of why I started this."

A groundbreaking study has revealed that fasting for 72 hours can do more than reset metabolism, it can regenerate the entire immune system. Researchers discovered that prolonged fasting triggers stem cells to awaken and begin producing fresh white blo*d cells, effectively rebuilding the bodyโs defense network from scratch.
During fasting, the body enters a survival mode, conserving energy by recycling old or damaged immune cells. Once normal eating resumes, stem cells rapidly replenish the system with new, stronger cells. This process not only strengthens immunity but may also help protect against age-related decline, infections, and even the harmful effects of chemotherapy.
Unlike short-term fasting, the 72-hour mark appears to be the threshold where deep cellular renewal begins. Scientists observed that patients who fasted for three days showed remarkable improvements in immune function compared to those who followed regular eating patterns. The findings suggest that fasting acts as a natural reset button for the immune system.
Itโs important to note that this is not a recommendation for everyone to fast without medical guidance. Individuals with health conditions, nutritional needs, or certain vulnerabilities should consult doctors before attempting extended fasts. However, the research demonstrates the extraordinary power of the bodyโs natural healing mechanisms when given the right conditions.
This discovery opens new doors for non-invasive, drug-free strategies to enhance resilience against disease. It proves that sometimes the simplest practices, like controlled fasting, can unlock benefits more powerful than we ever imagined.
Fasting for 72 hours may not only cleanse but also rebuild, offering a natural pathway to stronger, renewed immunity and overall health.
