State granted additional time to file for major federal disaster declaration 02/16/2024

The state of Kansas has been granted an extension to submit a request for a major federal disaster declaration for a major winter storm that struck the state Jan. 7-16, which included heavy snowfall, excessive winds and extreme windchills.

“We are grateful for this extension to file our request,” Governor Laura Kelly said.

KWIC provides intelligence to the agencies with wildfire management responsibilities in the state and explores cooperative options to address fire problems.
