Live the life you want.

Join Kansas Talking Books and the National Federation of the Blind for an overview of NFB-Newsline basics on Tuesday, November 12 at noon. Details at calendar.library.ks.gov/event/13478813

Newsline, a service of the National Federation of the blind, provides free access to local, state, national, and international news sources, magazines, weather alerts, and more to individuals with print disabilities.

Newsline users can access materials in a variety of ways from a touch tone telephone, Alexa, web browser, email, and more. Scott White and Jack Mendez will show participants how users can access content through these methods.

Be a Super Searcher during the 2024 BARD (Braille Audio Reader Download) Scavenger Hunt and learn how to harness the power of the BARD! Kansas Talking Books Service 🧐

Welcome to the Super Searcher BARD Scavenger Hunt! During NovemBARD learn how to harness the power of searching the National Library Service’s Braille and Audio Reading Download or BARD system.

Through a series of clues, you’ll test your search skills, learn new techniques and uncover hidden gems in BARD’s vast library. Each task will bring you closer to becoming a Super Searcher with powers to find any book or magazine on BARD you desire.

First clue: He is famous as a co-creator of iconic Marvel comic book characters. What is his name? Locate a biography in BARD about him.

Tip: Use quotations around search terms to narrow down results. Example: “Spider Man.”

Grab your cape, turn on your screen reader, and let’s get ready to embark on a search-and-find mission. Good luck, Super Searcher, and let the adventure begin!

5 Election accessibility reminders from Kansas Talking Books Service
1. Federal and State law requires the election process is accessible to all voters.
2. Each polling place must have at least 1 fully accessible Help America Vote Act-compliant voting machine.
3. Polling places must be accessible for all voters.
4. Elderly voters and voters with disabilities are entitled to vote from their car. Some polling places have ADA accessible buttons to alert works of a voter needing assistance.
5. If you feel your voting rights have been compromised or violated, contact Kansas Secretary of State at 1-800-262-8683 or visit http://sos.ks.gov .
