We work to empower and support youth with disabilities all across the state of Kansas! We also present to community organizations and companies. And many more!
KYEA Programs interact with youth and the community in a variety of ways:
Youth Leadership Forum (YLF): a motivational five-day forum in which around 30 high school juniors and seniors with disabilities stay on a college campus to learn about leadership, career options, advocacy, goal setting and much more. The Kansas Youth Empowerment Academy has always prided itself on providing the most up-to-date and relevant presentations to groups and schools on topics that are incredibly important to have open and frank conversations about people with disabilities and other empowerment topics.
Our presenters have over 20 years of experience presenting to groups of all ages and backgrounds. We cater each presentation to a specific audience while making it interactive and engaging.
With December 3rd being International Day of Persons with Disabilities, it felt like the right time to remind our local school districts of the available free presentations we offer.

Just a reminder that ACB’s Audio Description Project and the Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP) are accepting entries for Benefits of Audio Description in Education (BADIE), an essay contest for young people (ages 7 to 21) who are blind or have low vision. Kansas City Ballet is thrilled to present a sensory-friendly performance of The Nutcracker for children, families and adults with sensory sensitivities, autism spectrum disorder, or other special needs. Appropriate changes will be made to this performance to create a welcoming and safe space for all in attendance. We are pleased to work with the Kansas City Symphony to provide live music for this performance, while remaining sensitive to the needs of our audience.

Back to school means study tips! We've got you. 💛
Do you know high school juniors and seniors with disabilities who have leadership potential OR interest? Would they benefit from a week of empowerment? They should apply to the Kansas Youth Leadership Forum (KSYLF)!
The KSYLF is currently searching for young leaders from across the state to attend the 23rd annual forum held July 15-20, 2024 at Washburn University in Topeka. During the forum, delegates enjoy a unique week full of learning, fun, friends, and, most of all, a new sense of empowerment! Through various large sessions, delegates are able to hear from community leaders on such topics as advocacy, goal setting, leadership, disability history, communication, resources, and much more. Students are also able to share life experiences, goals, and ideas during breakout sessions with small groups. Students also participate in a variety of fun activities as well, including a trip to the Capitol, mentor luncheon, adapted recreation and barbecue, resource fairs, a talent show, and a dance! This is a week that you don't want to miss!
All youth who are interested in attending the KSYLF must meet the following criteria:
• reside in Kansas.
• have a disability as defined with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
• be in the 11th or 12th grade as of December 31, 2023. Students who are in an 18-21 transition program qualify to apply as well.
• have demonstrated leadership potential or interest in school and the community. Remember that leadership comes in many different forms!
Applications are due by DECEMBER 15, 2023, so don't delay in applying! For more information, visit www.kyea.org.
