Soon to be graduate of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner post-graduate certificate program, Vicki Bortzer, is making an impact in Dodge City and will soon be able to provide her community with mental health services as well. Run for Your Life 5K Run/Walk 💚 Let’s Talk About Mental Health!

Thank you to everyone who particapted in the run/walk on Saturday, to our wonderful volunteers/organizers, and the organizations who came out to help increase mental health awareness!

Next week, the Student Nurses of Washburn (SNOW) will be hosting a Spirit Week and Wellness Events for the School of Nursing students and faculty, in conjunction with university wide colleagues from Student Mental Health Services and the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. A specially trained therapy dog and their handler will be making an appearance on Monday morning in the Petro lobby. Harper and her handler, Kayden, may make more appearances depending on popularity. Join Washburn’s Wellness Coordinator, Evelyn Spangler, for yoga on the lawn! The session will be hosted behind Petro at noon on Wednesday (5/1). Snacks and mats will be provided!

Spirit Week Schedule
April 29th – Pajama Monday: Wear your comfiest or silliest PJ’s to school.
April 30th – Tie Dye Tuesday: Show off your zaniest tie dye designs!
May 1st – Washburn Wednesday: Show off your Washburn pride! Accessorize and adorn yourself with all your Washburn gear. Go all out!
May 2nd – Tiki Thursday: Thinking of the beach already? Show off your beachy vibes with Hawaiian shirts, leis, and hula outfits.
May 3rd – Funny Sock Friday: Wear your silliest and funniest socks to class or clinical!

Prizes will be awarded for the most spirited student in each level of nursing. At the end of each spirit day, e-mail [email protected] and [email protected] with your nominations and pictures of exceptional displays of spirit. Nominations are due by 5 PM daily. Prizes will be available for pick-up the next day in the SON office.

Only 2 weeks until our 50th anniversary Open House on May 3rd! 🎉 Yesterday, Dean Carpenter and Dr. Edwards joined Melissa Brunner on the red couch to talk about the event.

We welcomed our first group of Fall 2024 pre-nursing students at NSO today! 🤩🎉

YOU’RE INVITED! Join us to celebrate the School of Nursing’s 50th Anniversary 🎉

The Open House and Showcase will be held Friday, May 3rd from 4-6pm in Petro Allied Health Center on Washburn’s campus. We will feature tours of our simulation labs, have skills demonstrations, SON history through the decades, children’s activities, photo booth, and refreshments!

We ask alumni and friends attending the event to bring a canned goods, non-perishable items, and/or personal hygiene items to help stock the Bods Feeding Bods food and commodities pantry to benefit Washburn students. We hope to see you there! 🤩

Last week, our nursing leadership had the privilege of hosting Washburn University School of Nursing exchange students from Fukuoka University in Japan! It was an enriching opportunity for cultural exchange and collaboration in healthcare. We're grateful for our partnership with Washburn for bringing this wonderful opportunity to us, fostering global connections and enhancing patient care through diversity and understanding.
