Where is your water heater? Most homeowners rarely see this appliance due to a majority of them being located in the attic. Manufacturers recommend maintaining them at least once a year so that they continue to provide years of dependable service. This service is optimal to do before the summer months when the temperatures in the attic can reach well above 120 degrees. The Woodlands Plumbing Company, Inc. can perform the following maintenance on your water heater all within 1-1.5 hours per heater :

~Drain and flush the sediment that accumulates in the bottom of the tank every year which decreases the volume of hot water available. Sediment can also accumulate and cover the gas control valve and sensors, causing the sensor to operate erratically.
~Inspect the gas control valve
~Inspect the burner
~Inspect the temperature and pressure relief valve
~Inspect gas vent to ensure it is properly secured to allow sufficient ventilation and combustion air supply.
~Inspect all water and gas supply lines and emergency shut off valves that supply the water heater.

The Woodlands area and surrounding customers are currently experiencing frozen pipes and no water to their homes. Our phone lines are overloaded so we are hoping to offer advice here for the time being.

If your pipes are frozen to your home, please allow the outside temperature to reach above freezing for several hours ⏱ to allow the pipes to thaw. We ❌ DO NOT ❌ recommend using any type of electrical device to thaw pipes as this poses a safety hazard.

Copper, PVC, CPVC and PEX pipe all become more brittle at low temperatures, especially below freezing 🧊. If you suspect your pipes are frozen please shut off the water to your home (either at the street or the shut off valve typically located somewhere inside the home). Once the water is shut off, open up a few faucets 🚰 so that the melting ice and water has a place to go without adding more stress to the pipes.

Please keep an eye 👀 out for busted water pipes once the water begins to thaw. Check outside - as well as up in your attic - to ensure there are no water leaks or cracked/busted water pipes.

The Woodlands area customers are currently experiencing frozen pipes and no water to their homes. Our phone lines are overloaded so we are posting advice here in hopes that it helps for the time being.

If your pipes to your home are frozen and you have no water coming into the home, allow the outside temperature to get above freezing for a few hours to allow the pipes to thaw. We DO NOT recommend using any type of electrical devices to thaw pipes as this runs a safety hazard.

Copper, PVC, CPVC and PEX pipes become more brittle at low temperatures 🧊, particularly below freezing. When the water begins to thaw keep an eye out for all water lines, (including those outside and in your attic), to determine if the pipes have cracked due to expansion from the freeze.

If your pipes are frozen, turn off the main water supply to the house, either at the city (by the street or water box) or at the water shut off to the house usually located inside the home but not always. Make sure to open up a faucet 🚰 to give melting ice a place to go without adding stress on the pipes.

❄️🌧As we prepare for freezing temperatures in our area it’s important to protect your home by wrapping exterior exposed pipes to protect against freezing and pipe burst. Towels, old T-shirt’s and blankets work great when proper insulation is not available. Make sure to secure the cloth coverings with duct tape to keep them in place. Don’t forget pipe and valves to pool equipment, irrigation systems and water hose faucets. 🌧❄️

💧Turn on a faucet inside the house that is close to an exterior wall (usually a kitchen faucet) and keep it running at a slow steady stream of cold water until temperatures get above freezing to prevent water pipes from freezing💧.

Make sure the sink is free of dishes so that the drain does not accidentally become blocked while the faucet is dripping and if you use a tub or bathroom faucet make sure the stopper in the sink is completely open🚰.

As we approach freezing temperatures this evening in Spring, TX, please remember to wrap your exterior exposed pipes to protect against freezing and pipe bursts. Old T-Shirts, towels and blankets work great for a quick wrap with duck tape to keep them in place. Proper insulation is recommended but wrapping them with something is better than a frozen pipe tomorrow morning. Don't forget pipes that lead to pool fill lines, irrigation systems and water hoses.
