WELLNESS WEDNESDAY!
Employee Assistance Programs are becoming a common benefit to many workplaces. Oftentimes an EAP is a third party that either is contracted in-office or a referral covered by the employer offsite to help with professional, financial, legal, emotional, marital or family issues, substance abuse issues, or other personal issues. When those stressors from home begin to affect productivity and morale, managers and HR can utilize their EAP to achieve wellness for the team and individuals!

What is a Performance Improvement Plan? It is just that: a plan set by an employer after their performance has been evaluated and improvement is needed.
How they help: PIP's are incredibly beneficial in seeing change and improvement in weaker team members. They also let the employee know that they are seen as in need of improvement, and in many cases inform them that termination is indeed a possibility.
How to use:
ππΎ Outline goals you want to an employee to achieve, and make sure that the goals for improvement are completely relevant to the job.
ππΎ Ensure that enough detail has been provided to the employee to make sure they have what they need to succeed.
ππΎ Describe what 'success' and improvement looks like in a measurable way. Let it be in a way that the manager, HR, and the employee can agree on whether they were reached or not.

It's inevitable, one day you go into the office with a cloud looming over your head. Be it family problems, life-changing situations, emotional difficulties, or even news of terminal illness - all of these things carry a heavy weight that could damage or weaken your career if not dealt with properly.
Here are some tips for reconciling personal issues with the workplace:
1. Be honest with your employer and team that you may seem distracted, but do not overshare. Knowing that your energy is caused by something outside of the workplace is something that others can empathize with.
2. Recognize in yourself that emotions are high, and actively avoid conversations or people that will trigger your heightened emotions.
3. Establish strong boundaries: be at work when you're at work and be at home when you're at home.
4. Find an outlet. Use a hobby, quiet space, or confidant as a springboard for any residual or pent up anguish. The work/home life can be daunting if time is not spent outside both on occasion.
You've got this! Leave a "π" if you needed this today.
It's Wellness Wednesday with Bostic's Consulting and we want to share a cost-effective wellness program that your business or personal career path can easily adapt.
β¨ De-Stress Zones: Create a private space in your office that allows for freedom to walk away when needed. Knowing that a quiet area to decompress is available acknowledges the reality that not everyday will be a good day while also communicating that you hope to still be a safe place when those bad days arise.
Stock the area with water or tea, mints or chocolates, journals or stress balls and a timer that individuals can set for the breather they need. These spaces offer quiet and therapeutic solutions to those potentially volatile occasions, which will hopefully lead to a healthier and happier workplace for all.
Does your office have a de-stress zone? Let us know in the comments how it works for you!
Like any upcoming adventure, apprehension and nerves can really influence the outcome! Finding ways to regulate your emotions is essential in life, but especially in the work place. Here are some ways you can calm your nerves before jumping in to your new job!
π Do your homework. Busy your mind by researching your company's products, services, philosophies, culture, and press! Try to find mutual connections and make some introductions before your first day! Meet someone with the company and know you have a friendly face there before you start.
π Prep. Prepare for your first week by taking away some of the stressors beforehand! Plan out your wardrobe and shop, visit dry cleaner or tailor, etc. as needed in advance. Plan out your meals and even set a reservation or celebratory happy hour for the end of your week!
π Map it out - literally. Try different routes to your new office and plan your routes for rush hours, detours, etc. Having your commute pre-planned will help ease those fears of being late on your first day!
