If you were a Bronx Community College student during the spring 2021 semester who faced hardships brought on by the pandemic, you may qualify for a $500 emergency grant. The federal Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) is making that money available to the first 276 BCC applicants who submit the CRRSAA Additional Funds Application along with a document demonstrating their need. To be eligible, you must:
• have been registered for courses in Spring 2021.
• submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).

These funds will go directly to you to cover expenses such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child care expenses. Just click on the link below to the application, fill it out and send it in along with documentation of the particular reason you need a CRRSAA grant. For instance, if you lost your job, you can upload a copy of your unemployment check or a letter terminating your employment. If you fell behind in your rent or utilities, submit a copy of the bill. Did you have a medical issue? Send a document verifying that.

But remember: CRRSAA emergency grants are awarded on a first-come, first served-basis. Once the funds have been used up, the link to the application will be deactivated. So apply for your $500 NOW. http://ow.ly/Fwx550G2DdL or click link in bio

Give to Bronx Community College in #CUNYTUESDAY!

Today, Bronx Community College is once again participating in #GivingTuesday, the global day of giving celebrated every year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. At BCC, it is a time for the entire College community to pay tribute to the true spirit of the season by supporting our students and our socially engaged campus where we believe in education for all.

Last year, BCC ranked #1 in generosity for CUNY community colleges and #5 for CUNY colleges overall. We also ranked #6 as campus with the highest number of individual donors. Let’s see if we can do even better this year.

cunytuesday.org I’m ready to support Bronx Community College on December 3, 2019 during #CUNYTUESDAY. Learn more about Bronx Community College.

What is this research project about? » Our Mobility

OurMobility is seeking adults age 18 or older in the NYC area who have a smartphone (Android or iPhone) with a data plan, to participate in two paid studies about daily travel. The goal is to better understand how environmental and social factors in transportation influence our motivation, behavior, experiences, and emotions, and whether there is variation due to disability, gender, income, or age.

See link for details!

ourmobility.org Our Mobility investigates the psychology of daily transportation experiences and and seeks to understand how our transportation systems support (or fail to support) our basic psychological needs. We also want to understand how environmental, social, and economic factors in transportation influence m...

Congratulations to our students who successfully completed the Career Readiness Workshop Series, in partnership with Career Development and Office of Disability Services at BCC.

In the spirit of National Disability Employment month, this collaborate series was designed to prepare students with disabilities for internship and employment opportunities related to their majors. The workshops focused on Resume Writing, Interviewing Skills, Internship & Success in the Workplace Orientation, How to Self-Disclose When Networking and During Interviews & WIPA Work Initiative Planning and Assistance.

Thank you to all who made this possible, and best of luck to our job-ready professionals!

October was designated National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) by Congress in 1988. During NDEAM, countless private corporations, public institutions, non-profits, and other entities engage in various initiatives to raise awareness surrounding around disability employment issues and to acknowledge the contributions of persons in the workforce with disabilities. One common practice is for organizations to hold Disability Mentoring Day (DMD), in which an organization will sponsor a group of students or young professionals with disabilities for a day of group activities, workshops, and one-on-one guidance.

This year, Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield hosted BCC students with disabilities participating in the CUNY LEADS (Linking Employment, Academics, and Disability Services) program for a DMD at their main office at 14 Wall Street. Students were provided free lunch, a series of workshops, and the opportunity to network various professionals from the EBCBS team. At the end of the event, DSO was presented with a donation of $10,000 to be used toward the CUNY LEADS program at BCC.

BCC staff present at the event were Eddie Bayardell and Angela Wambugu Cobb of the Department of Advancement, Communications, and External Relations; and Maria Pantoja, Preston Burger, and William Medina of Disability Services. BCC students in attendance were Luis Alvarez, Kelsey Molina, Kelsey Rodriguez, Lisa Ighomuaye, and Jose Tejada.

Big thanks to Angela Wambugu Cobb – Assistant VP of Development in BCC’s Department of Advancement, Communications, and External Relations – and to Manisha Franklin – Director of Community Relations for EBCBS – for facilitating this partnership. It will hopefully be the first of many. Great job to the staff and students of DSO for the quality work and hands-on involvement in the BCC community that inspired this partnership.
