The holes in the wood are caused by a fungus, which makes the material rare and expensive. However, it’s water and termite resistive properties make it the ideal soffit and wall covering material for the South Florida climate.

A home inspection is not a code inspection, but stair specifications are critical to home safety as trip/fall hazards are the leading cause of hospital visits sustained at home. The stair riser (vertical piece) height should not exceed 7-3/4” in height and the tread (horizontal piece) depth should be 10” minimum. Also, the riser to tread ratio should conform to the normal cadence of a person and be consistent. The greatest riser height within any flight of stairs should not exceed the smallest by more than 3/8 of an inch.
