To be honest, I've been to a LOT of weddings. I've attended them, worked them as coordinator and venue owner, and I've hosted 2 for my own daughters...so I have some thoughts! 🤭

In my opinion, what makes an amazing memorable wedding day is one in which the couple considers the guests. When a host and hostess show they have thought through the comfort and enjoyment of their guests, everyone has an amazing time. When the couple only thinks of themselves, the guests suffer, and their memory of the day is seen through a lens of disappointment and annoyance. Make sure you start your ceremony on time – your guests planned their day around being on time for you, don’t ignore that. If you plan an evening ceremony, make sure you have appetizers during your photo time. People get hungry and hangry. If it’s 100+ degrees, do not make your guests sit in the heat for longer than you are willing to sit in it. Maybe dress up in a suit and sit outside to test it. Don’t just play your favorite music. Think of the generations attending and allow them to enjoy some tunes too, or at least allow them to request a song from the DJ. And definitely show your thoughtfulness by making a point to speak to your guests. Thoughtful consideration goes a long way in a successful celebration! 💒

Extreme heat. Extreme cold. Rain. What’s the big deal if the ceremony is outside in these conditions? Well, what couples don’t often consider are their guests, who are dressed up for a lovely celebration and are sent out to sit 10-15 minutes before the ceremony (this is because it takes that long to get them all out there, plus family that arrived 45 minutes early) so they are already in the blazing heat, or freezing cold and are uncomfortable. If it’s winter time and below 50 degrees, the women are shivering, the men are giving up their jackets, and noses are running. If it’s heat, they are dripping with sweat, makeup is melting, hair is wilting, the guys are still giving up their jackets, and anything else they can appropriately shed. Then the bride and groom, who are already sweating from nerves, add in the heat induced sweat for some lovely wet hairstyles and not just glowing skin, but rather water droplets upon their noses and chin. Worst of all, grandma has a heat stroke, and the whole party pauses for the EMS to show up (yep, we’ve seen it)...

"I don’t need a DJ, I have an amazing Spotify playlist!" 👩🏽‍❤️‍👨🏼 - yes, something we hear often, and we bet you do have an awesome playlist...BUT do you have a designated person to start it and stop it at proper times? Do you have a good speaker to connect it to so your guests can hear it, at the reception AND ceremony? Do you have a microphone for announcements? If the music is falling flat and no one is dancing, do you have a plan to adapt and keep the celebration going? Do you have a MC?

It's okay, we know you don’t know what you don’t know! 🤷🏼‍♀️ We cannot emphasize enough the importance and value of a good MC. They know how to guide your guests through the entire celebration in an appropriate and effective way, transition songs and announcements, and make everyone get in the party mood. Spotify simply can’t replace a DJ. 🎧🎙

But - you don’t know to fill out this list unless someone tells you! Again and again, we experience couples who didn't create a shot list for their photographer. It's a very big deal to do this so that
1. You don't miss any important photos you must have
2. You don't waste time taking photos you couldn't care less about
3. You know what to expect and who to ask to stay to maximize your 1 hour cocktail hour photo time
If your photographer doesn't share a shot list with you to think through and fill out, your coordinator should.

Celebrating 6 years of weddings at Silo and Oak meant taking a trip down memory lane. It is fun seeing how different venue locations have been utilized!
🌾 The Silo has been backdrop to many bridals & dramatic shots, but back in the beginning we had ceremonies & even a dinner reception held in front of it (we quickly realized it is too hot & uneven for chairs).
🌳The woods behind the chapel were actually our first outdoor ceremony location before the Woods Site was created - now it sees many joyful first looks & dreamy photos!
💒 The Chapel has perhaps seen the most uses - ceremonies, dance parties, cake cutting, baby showers, and even murder mystery parties have taken place inside!
