Still right in line with Mustang pricing, right around the Ecoboost premium convertible to the GT premium convertible. If anything, this shows how far automotive technology has come. A base Ecoboost would be doing circles around this 83’ model. The question is, would you have bought one new in 1983, lmk down below

5.0L ‘High putput’ V8 - 175 hp….this was still the ‘dark times’ of performance. All that power is down low, especially the quarter-mile performance. 0 to 60 wasn’t the worst time in that period, most cars struggled to hit 10…but this engine is just choked. Performance carberators and a better exhaust can’t come soon enough.

Still managed a respectable showing… that’s a nice way to say it understeers…., right into the dirt. You can even see the tall, narrow tires roll over in corners. Mustangs have come a long way in handling, especially tire tech. I guess ‘diving into the dirt’ is standard handling procedure for a mostly accurate steering rack.

Nothing says performance like red vinyl and fake wood. ‘A real back set’.....I’ve had foxbodies before, and the rear seats really are useless unless you sit sideways, and that was for a coupe/hatch, never mind a convertible.. I actually do prefer this dash layout compared ot the Aero fox body mustangs, but in GT trim. Those seats are terrible for any sort of spirited driving, you’ll slide right off…or get glued to them on a hot day.

$12,995 in 1989 would be around $34,896 today. Not the most expensive, it feel reasonaly affordable. They suggest a few alternatives, like the prelude or Ford probe. But what about the real elephant in the room: a Foxbody LX 5.0, which, according to the internet, started at $12,600. The foxbody would be much cruder than the 240sx, but performance would be much better.

With that in mind, and without knowing how this cars populaterly would skyrocket during the big drift craze of the 2010’s, would you pick this up?

When convertibles came back’ in the 80’s, it was easier to just chop off the top of a coupe, and have another company handle it. It’s a solid job, and looks as factory as anyone else. Personally, I preferred the ‘wider’ 79-82 styling, compared to the narrower 83 / 84 grile.

Double the price of a Cobra, but this power is still better than a GT today! Assuming this was recorded in 1998 (the taillights and the mention of swapping the drivetrain are the only real context clues), this is a 6-figure Ford Mustang. Price is well above a Corvette, but right in line with a Viper of its time (appx $134 today), and they aren’t kidding about undercutting a Ferrari 355, which would be $234k+). But would you buy one for that much?
