Lonestar James Fraser "Jamie" went to his new home on Sunday with the Horton's. This boy has been just like his sire so far and I certainly hope he stays that way. I would have kept him if I had not kept two of his full sisters already who I love too! He is going to have a wonderful home with lovely grass and ladies of his own!

Yesterday I picked up my steer from Westphalia in Lott, TX. I have been using them for quite a few years now. USDA certified, hung 14 days minimum.
Alfred’s live weight per dairy cattle weight tape. Approximately 800 pounds. Hanging weight 498 pounds. Take home weight 362 pounds.
I do get the organ meats for my dogs. I know they are a super food, but I rather let my dogs have them. They are super happy!
Learning to stand tied now that they have graduated to the halters with more pressure. These actually are nicer for teaching to stand tied because they won’t pull back as much.
Oh no! Charlie passed out! 😂
The calves are all doing great with the rope halters so time for them to get a lesson with halters with a little more pressure under their chin with a chain. I put it on Charlie and he just fell over! Such a drama queen! I threatened to put him in the crock pot and he decided that he is actually not giving up on life just yet! 🤣
This is a Little Moo Coo halter and the others have Thomas Dexter halters. I am not sure if you buy these any more.

The boys first time being tied up with the stierwalt breaking halter. Bathing them really helps teach them to be calm and accepting to being cleaned everywhere. The water feels so good on a hot day. They don’t put up much of a fuss for their first tie up. It’s also a great way to desensitize to being fly sprayed.

Dandylion and Firecracker have discovered the opening to access the calf feeding area. They were curious what Yelana was doing in the pen and followed her in! That worked nicely so I didn’t even have to train them where to go.
Charlie!!
Why, why is it always you Mr. Mischievous! 🤣😂
I’m going to miss you and your shenanigans when you go to MS to your new home.

I went for a visit to Walnut Springs Ranch this morning to meet Walnut's Bojangles and the rest of the "boy" herd. What a delight! This little boy will be my new herd sire!🥰I am so excited for the opportunity to own this bull! My friend came along to meet this super sweet herd of Dexters too. The calves were too irresistible for even Wayne not to want to pet them.
I am hoping to add another Cascade bull to my herd in the future as well. Just waiting for the right one. Perhaps Cascade's Shade is carrying him?!
Weaning time! The bulls are all 8 months old. The mommies are definitely more distressed then their babies! I usually use Quiet wean and FerAppease to make the transition easier.

Alfred is dropped off. He self loaded this morning when I open the trailer up and put his feed inside. I would have liked to had more finish on him. Perhaps I should have kept him through summer. He will still be tasty!
