Practically Pastoring
A podcast by pastors for pastors who are just doing their best.

In honor of Adam Powers successfully defending his dissertation today, we dropped his talk from the Practical(ly) Pastoring Conference last month on all your podcast platforms. Have a listen, and then congratulate Rev. Dr. Powers.
We’ve been working on something new.
For the past few months, Riley has been walking through a real-life ministry transition… and instead of waiting until it’s over, we decided to hit record in the middle of it.
This is Get a Job with Andrew and Riley—a limited series following the process of leaving, searching, interviewing, and figuring out what’s next.
It’s honest. It’s a little awkward. And it’s probably more relatable than we wish it was.
First episode is live now!
A podcast about calling, clarity, and the awkward in-between.

New episode is live.
The Big Buddy Plan.
We talk through what it looks like to care for an abused and traumatized child in kids ministry without putting other kids, volunteers, or the family in a bad spot. Practical safeguards, an emergency action plan mindset, and buckets of grace with real wisdom.
We’re also glad to welcome our friend to the conversation.
Then we pivot to online attendance tracking without getting drunk on vanity metrics, and we finish with Bible-marking systems that won’t leave you regretting your life choices.

This week our episode is another session from last month’s Practical(ly) Pastoring Conference. Listen or watch wherever you get your podcasts as lays out the discipleship technique of “Lanes, Not Levels.”

Our first post-conference episode is out everywhere.
We talk about the “pastoral side piece” problem, when folks leave for the megachurch buffet but call you for hospital visits, then we take a hard left into wisdom, boundaries, and what pastors should never, ever record.
Listen wherever you get your podcasts.

Big shout out to Jeff Bachman from Vanderblomen to talk about the decision between staying or leaving a ministry job. It was powerful, practical, and very helpful.

We challenged three pastors with a game we got from our favorite IG account Pastors With Props. We gave pastors a prop and 30 seconds to make their best sermon illustration. They all would have been better without the prop. 😂
