Lately I’ve been experimenting with color dye blocks! I’ve enjoyed observing the color combinations I’m able to come up with and gaining a better understanding of how they work.

This candle is my interpretation of “Shamrock Shake” ☘️ and boy does it smell just like the real thing! I’m pleased with how it turned out. 🥰

Hello friends! I took a short break from candle making to prepare for the start of the new semester. Honestly it feels so good to be back on campus teaching the students again! I am one of the lucky few to be able to say I honestly love my job. 🙏🏼

I’m happy to say that everything is going as well as it can in these crazy times. This week is a little less hectic than most (it’s practical week for the students, which is easy week for me 😁) so I’ve had time to work on some orders!

This order was made as a birthday gift to be sent all the way to California! I’m glad my work had the opportunity to travel so far and I hope the recipient enjoyed their gift! 🥰

I want to start by saying THANK YOU to all the wonderful people that commented on my last post with kind words of encouragement and understanding. That part of my life is something that I haven’t reflected on in quite a while, and while it was emotional it felt good to let it all out! It’s because of your support that I am where I am today, and I am grateful. 🙏🏼

So I decided I’d give y’all a little sneak peek into the news I’m going to share tomorrow... Can you guess what it is? 🥰

I have something very special to share today. The candle pictured here is one of the first candles I ever made. I made it out of the wine bottle that I drank the night after defending my Master’s Thesis, way back in 2016. I cut and sanded the bottle myself, and filled it with a mixture of my favorite scents (egyptian amber + lavender). I only burn it sparingly, and I figured today was a fitting occasion as I take some time to reflect on the past and what brought me here now.

Many of you may not know this, but at one time I was in a PhD program. For me, grad school was a dark time in my life. From the beginning I realized how different I was from everyone around me. Slowly I realized I did not belong, didn’t even want to try to belong, and this life was not right for me. To this day I can say that quitting the PhD program is one of the hardest but best decisions I ever made! I’m very thankful for my awesome friend for helping me through that crazy time ❤️

Thankfully I was able to get out with my Master’s so that all my hard work during that time didn’t amount to nothing. The bottle I drank that night was called Wisdom (from ). The quote on the bottle says “Knowledge is learning something every day, wisdom is letting go of something every day.” I learned that letting go of what no longer serves you leads the path to new opportunity. Soon after that I began my first teaching job, and found a love for a career that I had not previously known. I’m very thankful to still be teaching today!

Little known fact: when I received my degree they actually made a mistake and wrote that I got my PhD on it 😂 I thought it was so funny I decided to keep it that way! Swipe to the last photo to check it out ☺️ Also, peep my favorite beanie made by 😁

I suppose the summary of this story is that while some opportunities are lost, others are gained, and sometimes you need to just go for it and do what feels right in your soul. I am so happy that I decided to take the next step in my candle business and share my love for making candles with you 🥰

Yesterday was National Beer Can Appreciation Day, so I thought I’d highlight some of my favorite examples of can art!

On the left is Ingot from , which is one of my absolute favorites as I love the color mint. This candle is scented with ginger & frankincense, and is available for purchase!

On the right is Bluebonic Chronic from . I love the funky geometric style of the Aurora cans. This can has not been made into a candle yet, and is available for a custom order!

If you are into craft beer and haven’t checked out either of these breweries yet, I definitely recommend doing so soon! They make amazing beer and are NY local ☺️

I have some exciting news today... wax melts are now available for purchase! Made with all natural soy wax and your favorite fragrance oil, these wax melts are perfect for freshening up your home. One jar of 5 wax melts is $10.

These wax melts are scented with Mahogany Teakwood oil and they smell amazing! Bask in the cozy fragrances of mahogany, cedar wood and oak, with notes of delicate lavender and geranium.

Welcome to Custom Candle Creations by Renee! I have been perfecting the techniques of making candles for about three years now. Today I decided to take the next step and move forward with my small business.

What is unique about my business?

I take beer cans, bottles, jars and mugs that would have been thrown out and upcycle them as containers for my candles. I was inspired by the beautiful artwork that is found on many of the craft beer cans from local breweries. I wanted to repurpose the cans in a way that would allow the artwork to continue to be displayed in the home. What better way to do so than make them into a candle!

How can you purchase your own custom candles?

I will be using this page to advertise the containers and fragrances that I have available. All you have to do is pick out your container and choose which scent you would like for your candle. I will then craft it into your own unique creation! If you live local to Syracuse, I am happy to use beer cans that you provide as well.

How much does each candle cost?

Candles made in 16 oz beer cans are $15 each, all other candles are individually priced. I accept PayPal and Venmo for payment. Please message for pricing inquiries.

Is local pickup/shipping available?

If you live in the Syracuse area, local pick up is available for free. Shipping is also available through USPS. I am happy to calculate an estimated shipping cost for you if you are interested in that option.
