Hatchery Supported Trout Waters Close March 1

Approximately 1,000 miles of Hatchery Supported Trout Waters, marked by green-and-white signs, will be closed March 1 - April 2 for stocking.

In 2022, 964,000 trout will be stocked at frequent intervals March through June — 96% of which will average 10 inches in length, with the other 4% exceeding 14 inches in length.

Anglers can harvest a maximum of seven trout per day, with no minimum size limit, gear or bait restrictions.

Be careful out there. This Peeping “Tom” was spotted at Jewel Cave National Monument.⁣ It was looking for a cave tour, but it was too late in the day to accommodate. The ranger on duty thoughtfully explained the park was closing. After some ruffled feathers and some ‘fowl’ language, “Pluck my what?”, the turkey left the park without further incident. ⁣

Happy July 4th! The freaky year of 2020 continues with massive power outages in Jackson County NC today. The hardware store in Sylva is currently closed because of no power. We’ll reopen as quickly as power is restored.

For those that have been patiently waiting, the Wayehutta OHV Riding Area in Jackson County NC reopened today! We have day and season passes available at the flagship store on 441 in Sylva!

You’ll notice these posted today (and at other area small businesses). Please just abide by the policy, and let’s not make a big deal out of it. We already require shirts and shoes for entry. It’s the law as of 5PM today, and the only people that can be punished by this if you don’t do it are small business owners already struggling during the pandemic. We also wear our seat belt on an airplane, so if this is what we need to do, we’re all for it - it can’t hurt. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.
