SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN will be the buzzwords through the weekend. Both cause big travel issues, but only one causes big power issues. Here's a refresher...and let's go team SLEET.

Pretty wild to see two tropical systems (Tropical Storm Imelda left & Hurricane Humberto right) spinning so close together off the Southeast coast of the U.S.

Thanks to big brother Humberto, Imelda will hook a hard right and begin heading out to sea on Tuesday!

TROPICAL UPDATE
12 PM THURSDAY 9.25.2025

This isn’t a friendly trend in the tropical models, but there’s no reason to panic. Models are notoriously unreliable for systems that have not yet developed. On top of that, the atmospheric setup ahead is very complex, so I expect we’ll see significant changes in the guidance—good or bad. At this point, every outcome is still on the table, including the out-to-sea scenario.

Hurricane Hunters are currently investigating the tropical wave north of Hispaniola, and that data is already feeding into the latest model runs. I’ll take a deep dive into those results and have another update for you between 2 and 3 p.m.

FYI - IF we were to see any impacts here, it would most likely be Monday/Tuesday.

Wanna see something wild? How about the EURO spitting out twin hurricanes off shore next week. (Neither manage to hit the US with this model run). I'm showing this for entertainment purposes but also for the fact that it represents an incredibly complicated tropical forecast developing for this weekend into early next week. Two tropical systems, relatively close to each other, are likely to develop over the next few days. That alone creates a difficult forecast as each may impact how the other develops and moves. Throw in a complicated upper steering pattern, and I'll be adding a few more gray hairs this week. For now, there is no need to sound the alarm in the Carolinas, but certainly encourage you to keep checking back in on a regular basis.

This is a long ways away but track the storm in the Atlantic right now. There are models that are showing it coming right to us. This would be two weeks from now on Sept 18th-19th.
