We are a small but mighty no-kill animal shelter located in beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. Our employees, volunteers and donors are dedicated to our mission!

Ozarks Kat and K9, a NO-KILL shelter has been a part of the lake community for more than 30 years. Our current locations including Murphy's low cost spay/neuter clinic, thrift store and shelter grew from the hard work of our founders. We work with the local community and organizations from across the country to rescue and adopt out as many dogs and cats as we have the capacity to care for.

Operating as usual

Today was a day we have been waiting for...the changing of the guard for our dear little man Stanley! Stanley's foster mom (on the right) handed over the leash to his new forever mom, who has promised to take him to all of his follow-up vet visits and spoil him rotten. Happy tails, Stan the Man!πŸ’™πŸΆπŸ’™

We are so happy that Howie is doing well in his new home! This battle-worn old man deserves to spend his remaining years in peace and comfort πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

Just a Howie update. He is doing phenomenal and gaining weight.. I work at home and he lays by my desk throughout the day for hugs and kisses.

Stanley went for a follow-up appointment today at Osage Animal Hospital where he had the stitches from his ear surgery removed. Everything is looking good for this old man, but he will still have periodic rechecks over the next year to keep an eye on things. He is currently in his foster home, but he has a meeting tomorrow with a potential adopter. Keep your fingers crossed!!! πŸ’™πŸΆπŸ’™

What a wonderful show of support from our lake area community! We are so appreciative of everyone who was involved with this event. Thank you!!πŸΆπŸ’™πŸ±

Wow, all we can say is WOW and THANK YOU to everyone who came to the Customer Bartender Fundraiser for Ozarks Kat & K9 Shelter. A huge success, even with the weather being kind of yucky, you guys showed up and were so very generous and we are so excited to get everyone together and take a whopping check of $4,000+ to the shelter (day & time to be announced soon). Again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this event such a wonderful success for such a worthy cause.

Happy New Year to all!

KB's Furry Friend: Noelle

Noelle may have found a home already, but this episode also talks about a few other dogs who are still available, volunteer opportunities and our programs to help community animals. Don't miss out! Thank you to Lake TV and R Veterinary at The Lake for all of your support in 2021. We look forward to another year of working together with both businesses to find homes for many more animals πŸ˜ΈπŸ’™πŸΆ

Here are just a couple of views of our Shelter Angel Tree from the past couple of weeks πŸ’™πŸŽ„πŸ’™ We kept having to move food donations to our storage barn every couple of days so people could still move around in the lobby and so we weren't blocking the door to Dan's room! We are so grateful to everyone who brought or mailed in holiday donations. If you pulled a tag off the tree and haven't had a chance to bring your items in yet, feel free to continue to do so during our regular business hours.

OUR ANIMALS APPRECIATE YOU! πŸΆπŸ’™πŸ˜Έ

As we look back on another year at Ozarks Kat and K9, we wanted to share some of the year's statistics with our supporters. It's not every year we have a pig included in these numbers!

As part of these totals, we transferred IN 38 animals (16 cats/22 dogs) from lake area animal controls and smaller licensed rescue organizations. With the help of 11 other no-kill organizations in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois and Oklahoma, we transferred OUT 127 pets (2 cats/127 dogs) to help them find homes or be able to live out their lives in special animal sanctuaries for seniors or medical cases. This assistance from our transfer partners frees up space in our facility to be able to help more pets here.

In addition to the animals who have passed through our doors, we are thrilled to have helped hundreds of lake are pet families through our "Chow Corral" pet food pantry, spay/neuter financial assistance and our new low cost vaccine/microchipping voucher program. During 2021, we received a grant from the Petco Love foundation which allowed us for the first time to have funds available to help the public with emergency vet bills. We hope to be able to continue this new program in 2022.

We are pleased with the number of pets we were able to help in 2021, especially given that we have been short-staffed almost the entire year. No matter how many we are able to intake, though, the needs in this area are seemingly endless. We can not do this without the help of all of our supporters, donors, volunteers, board members and staff. Animal rescue is truly a team effort and we thank everyone who has been a part of our team! We at OKK9 pledge to do our very best to once again help as many animals as we are capable of during this new year.

Our office manager, Meri, drove Little Foot to the next stop in his journey today. He is now all settled in at Five Acres Animal Shelter in St Charles and they have promised us updates. They have a wonderful program for FIV+ cats and a great record for finding them homes. They also loaded up our van for the return trip with tons of food, toys, dishes and bedding for our animals. We greatly appreciate how larger organizations like Five Acres help look out for us little guys! It takes a village πŸ’™

Little Foot disguised himself as an elf last night in hopes he could sneak onto Santa's sleigh and hitch a ride to the North Pole. That idea may not have worked out, but we have a different plan in place for this friendly guy. You may recall seeing posts previously about our quest to find a home for this sweet FIV+ cat. We are currently working with Five Acres Animal Shelter in St Charles to arrange a transfer - they are one of very few shelters in the country who intake FIV+ cats. They have a whole ward dedicated to their care and a good success rate of finding them forever homes. We are hoping to get Little Foot to St Charles in the coming week so he can fulfill his Christmas wish of a home of his own...even if it isn't living with Santa!

Little chihuahua Angel came in with her mom to pick out a kitten friend. Tac (from our "Tic Tac Toe" litter) reached out of the kennel and made it known that she was up for the job! They booped noses and we can't wait to get update photos of them snuggling the days away πŸ˜ΈπŸ’™πŸΆ

We knew our pretty princess Pointer mix Noelle wouldn't be around long once she became available. It was love at first sight for her new mom and dad and she is off to enjoy the holidays with her family! πŸ’™πŸΆπŸ’™

Our Story

Our current thrift store was built originally to house our thrift shop and for our animals that are up for adoption. Our Thrift store is the main monetary base for the animals we take in and for our ongoing spay/neuter financial assistance program that benefits our area animals. Our volunteers and employees are few but mighty. Those interested in helping should come to our building on Hwy 5 just south of the Morgan/Camden county line or call us at 573-374-2629. Memberships in Ozarks Kat and K9 are available. We are located just inside the northern edge of Sunrise Beach, MO. on Hwy 5. Come Visit Us!
